FR54-72 Glover’s Marblehead Regiment c..1776 La Meridiana
Couldn’t resist a bit of fun with this figure. The Marblehead Regiment is best known for evacuating Washington’s 9,500-man army overnight in Aug 1776 from Brooklyn Heights where British more or less had him trapped. They are also the ones who ferried Washington across the Delaware for his attack on the Hessians at Trenton.
Glover’s regiment was made of mariners and fishermen and well suited for these “amphibious” operations. His men included a large number of Free Blacks (about 1/3 according to at least one source) as well as some Native Americans.
A number of different references reported that the men of the regiment were clothed in blue, round-about mariner’s jackets with leather buttons, and sailor’s “slops” (trousers)
So: New Shenandoah head, regiment style jacket modified to a mariner round-about with mariners’ cuffs and leather buttons, changed the shirt to a pull-over garment typical for sailors, got rid of the belt and changed the slops to a drop front and extended them per period drawings. Added a neckerchief and changed the angle of the gun just a bit.
