Hi

I am please to announce our latest release, which is a return to recipients of the Victoria Cross.

Bill Speakman was awarded the VC for his part in the action defending Hill 217 during the Korean War.

in later life he retired to live at the Royal Hospital Chelsea which gave me the ideal opportunity to depict him in later life wearing the full dress uniform of a Chelsea Pensioner, along with his full set of medals.

I think it is the only bust of a Chelsea Pensioner available, which is a bit of a surprise given how must they are respected in the UK.

The bust is available on my website: https://sarnia-miniatures.co.uk/p/018-bill-speakman-vc

his citation, and full medal list is also on my website: https://sarnia-miniatures.co.uk/i/bill-speakman-vc

Here are a couple of photos of the bust painted by Peter Day for the box art.

As always, any feedback is welcome.

It will be in the post tomorrow.

The painting guide includes full details of all of his medals. I hope you enjoy the bust.

I was curious about the badge on his chest. Turns out to be the Taegeuk (highest) level of South Korea's Order of Military Merit, awarded for the 'supreme, ultimate' rendering of 'outstanding military service', either in action or 'performing his/her duty equivalent to combat'. This puts him alongside Gen MacArthur and other top brass but unlike them (as listed on Wiki) he was awarded it in actual fighting (presumably the same action as his VC: a US Sgt Falk got a lower level one for his involvement at Pork Chop Hill).

Tom - I agree that a younger version with the SAS badge would be a nice bust, I opted for the Chelsea Pensioner unifrom because I know of no other VC who was a Chelsea Pension and it was too good an opportunity to miss sculpting that uniform and the challenge of the tricorn hat.

Nap and Geoff - thanks for your support.

Peter
