Hi guys ,
I was pleased to receive from my friend Ulrich at Puchala Miniatures the next 2 releases in their WW1 range , the first is Crown Prince Rupert of Bavaria (or Kronprinz Rupprecht von Bayern in German)

So let have a little background on the subject first :

Born in Munich on 18May 1869 in German his full title is His full title was His Royal Highness Rupprecht Maria Luitpold Ferdinand, Crown Prince of Bavaria, Duke of Bavaria, of Franconia and in Swabia, Count Palatine of the Rhine ...phew some title .

In WW1 he commanded the German Sixth Army at the outbreak of World War I in Lorraine. While part of the German army was participating in the Schlieffen plan, the Crown Prince led his troops on to the Battle of Lorraine.

Rupprecht achieved the rank of field marshal (Generalfeldmarschall) in July 1916 and assumed command of Army Group Rupprecht on 28 August that year, consisting of the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Army.

He was later given command of the 6th Army in Northern France and remained on the Western Front during the stalemate that would last until the end of the war

He died in 1955 at Schloss Leutstetten at the age of eighty-six, he was treated like a deceased monarch, receiving a state funeral. He is buried in the crypt of the Theatinerkirche in Munich near his grandfather Prince Luitpold and great-great-grandfather King Maximilian I, between his first wife Duchess Maria Gabrielle and his oldest son Prince Luitpold.

And here's picture of the man himself

Crown Prince

Moving onto the pieces themselves , looking 1st at the main body :

the torso is in a relaxed pose with the arms across the body holding onto the sword hilt .

I like the way the pockets have been sculpted slightly turned up rather than close to the jacket , details on the decorations he wears are subtle which will be brought to life with careful painting , the collar has the distinctive Bavarian lutzen with the field marshall's epaulettes nicely done as well .

On a dry run with blue tack fit is good with minimal casting flash to remove infact almost nothing , the sculpting of the folds are well done and IMO looks the part of a finely produced garment .

Crown Prince

Onto the other 3 pieces now :

The head is cast wearing the peaked cap (perhaps an otion might be available with helmet) , facial details are very good indeed , credit to the sculptor and the caster , there is a small casting plug to deal with at the back , but no real problem there and a bonus is that there is nothing to remove from the top of the cap as I have seen in other busts I have reviewed .

The hands are cast wearing gloves with the right over the left holding the hilt of his sword (which has a small amount of work required to remove the flash) , when I do this I will probably add a sword knot from Duro/Magicsculpt but this is my personal preference .

The base is as before the Iron Cross version , , nice detailing on it (oakleaves) which ads a distinctive touch to this and the others in the range.

Crown Prince

Hi Carl ,
Good point , in the insert there is pictures of him wearing the cap , the option is to contact UP and buy an additional head with picklehaube or sculpt one .

Crown Prince

Conclusion :

This is a good subject in a natural pose , well cast and sculpted , I would like to see an option of a picklehaube as Carl has mentioned . Facial details are accurate with good details .

Another one I can recommend to all .

The Crownprince can be obtained for 35 euro's plus shipping
