The leather was a base coat of orange, then the colour gradually built up with very dilute layers of sepia, and black in the darkest areas. I put a drop of glaze medium in the mix to delay the drying time, that helps stop getting tide marks.

Nice face painting as well, but may I suggest to add some subtle warm tones to the face, like the cheeck and temple area?
Really nice job Carl - love the ink method on the leather, looks brilliant. Are Vallejo inks the same as w&n artists ink? Also what grass tufts are you using on the groundwork?
