Hey guys,

Just wondering if latorre's clinch rifles figure can be painted in a grey confederate uniform as opposed to the green rifles company uniform...i'm not all that thrilled to paint the green...but i do have the figure...
Since i don't know much about ACW, i was hoping the uniforms were the same cut, just different fabric..

If that would be right to paint him grey too...would anyone know the best base colour in the vallejo range...

-Alex

Yes you can paint the figure wearing a grey uniform. You might want to shave off the shoulder boards as Confederate regulations wer for the rank to be displayed with Sleeve knots and collar insignias. Regrading which grey to use, I use either 870 or 992.

Does that mean i also need to shave off the decoration around the cuff buttons of the sleeve? and then putty on cuff braids and collar insignia, or , for sake of not know how do do that, is it possible to have a confederate grey frock coat with shoulder boards?

-Alex

I would say yes that you would need to shave it all off, but no you do not need to rescuplt the new insignia as you can either leave the frock coat blank or use the photo etched stuff from Nimix.

Alex, Here is an original coat worn by a Captain from the 15th Mississippi Infantry. The Austrian knot seen on the sleeves of frocks and shell jackets would probably not be as common in the later years of the war, so it's okay to leave them off. At a bare minimum the bars on the collar should work just fine.~Gary

Thanks for the info gary -

David, so basically, i can leave the figure completely intact and just paint the uniform in greys or dark blue ?

i wasn't very inclined to hack up the figure...so if that's true, that'd be fantastic!

Alex, he's fine the way he is. There was no such thing as uniform"regulations" in the Confederate Army, be it Eastern or Western theatre. It was in paper only. And I doubt any quatermaster or uniform depot actually saw these reg's.

Here's some pic's to put the mind at ease.

David,

Thank you for clarifying, I should have mentioned that the coat could be left intact and painted either blue (I would go with Vallejo Oxford Blue sorry I do have the number handy) or grey if the figure was depicted from 1861.

Jason,

Interesting photos, where are the from? I am always looking for good references.
