The work was commissioned by Napoleon in September 1804 and its official title is Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris on 2 December 1804.
Jacques-Louis David started work on 21 December 1805 in the former chapel of the College of Cluny, near the Sorbonne, which served as a workshop. Assisted by his student Georges Rouget, he put the finishing touches in November 1807.
Some time ago my wife (Cristina Menéndez) started this project with the picture in mind. Her original idea was to sculpt the miniatures herself but after think about it for a while we decided that maybe could be better to work on a conversion as I knew some miniatures that could work for this project.

Those miniatures are from ArtIg, a not so known brand that usually sells their minis prepainted. I have to say that napoleon and Josephine miniatures aren't so good, but did it's job and helps us to work less than with a complete sculpt.

Cris started the conversion work assited by me and most of the stuff work is at her own. At the end I took the project myself as she hadn't enought time to work on it so final sculpt touches and painting work are mine.
I really enjoyed to work with her but this scene has so many hours and not all of them was funny ones.

As you can see we needed to change to original picture position due in 3D hands position doesn’t allow the viewer to look at Napoleons face, and as we had limited space we couldn’t add the extra miniatures around them. So think in our scene as another picture taken a few seconds after the original one.
