Moderators - Please feel free to move this wherever it should go - cos' I got no idea.

I am now officially saying Duh! to myself - Why didn't I think of this before?

I've been looking for a source for lead wire suitable to make ropes, bits for horses, etc., etc., etc. and I found one by accident on line. Of course - Fly fishing suppliers. They use lead wire to provide weight in certain flies. Now I knew that before, not that I'm a fisherman or anything, but it was part of Morton's garden of useless facts. But I didn't think to put a and b together to get c and look online. So - one source - www.parkerflies.com or on e-Bay.

Hope you can use it. Cheap and simple.(y)

All the best,
Dan

Mike - I don't get into Bass Pro shops all that often, but thanks for mentioning it. Do they stock multiple sizes?

Einion - Oh, I know I'm not alone. I see plenty of examples all around me all the time. But still can't help feeling like halfth my brain isn't clicking like it used to.

I'd be interested in anything else anybody could suggest as useful, cheap materials not normally found in hobby shops.

All the best,
Dan

Hey Dan, You can buy an assortment box of 6 spools for about $18. Comes with spools of lead thread (wire) in sizes, .010, .015, .020, .025, .030 and .035 in a nifty plastic box. You can also buy individual spools in the same sizes for $3.

Now that I've seen the prices that Mike has listed above I doubt it's going to be competitive but I wanted to mention solder wire as another option that's pretty widely available.

We're gettin' old, no two ways about it :(

I got some lead wire from Bass Pro shops ten years ago and still have quite a bit left. They also have one type that comes on a large spool that is striated that is perfect for miniature rope. The wire is wrapped in a sheathing that has to be stripped off which is no big deal.
