Regarding suggestions, if I have to limit myself to 18-19th century, I would recommend two figures related to my little obsession with history of military medicine:
1. Dominique Jean Larrey (he also appears in Nap's 3rd reference about Napoleon's commanders)
2. Pierre Francois Percy - less known but not less great and influential
Both of them served as surgeons-in-chief for Napoleon, were admired by soldiers and officers of the Grand armee, and were very influential in developing and ushering modern military medicine
