Hi all,
this old Kirin kit 120mm,was painted in Oils and Humbrols,I wanted to give the imperssion he had been out in a shower of rain, the pictures don't allow the detail too well.
Before I started it I managed to break my right arm,the end of June while at work, spending 5 weeks in plaster and painting this stopped me from going nuts,as I'm a fairly active guy,and there is only so much sitting in the sun you can do before I started wall climing, and hated the limitation the plaster cast gave, but I did managed finish it just about the time the cast came off!
I hope you like it? Sorry the pictures are not all that!
Best Regards
Paul

Hi Paul
Like it! you have got good atmosphere with this figure especially as its 120mm as I know they are not easy
Flesh tones are good and the greys work well

Well done mate

Hi all,
many thanks' for your kindness!
I have a habbit of trying to put more in to a plain figure, some of my ideas come out ok,many don't.
I find the more complex the figure, the sooner I get fed up with it,and it end's up half painted and back in the cupboard,I have a few like that.
This was a joy to paint, but I did have to think about it,I've never seen this before, so I thought I'd give it a go,I was worried it would not look right, for the on looker "what was he thinking of" comes to mind!
The way I paint and the medium I use is not to every ones liking, its a little old hat,now days, most like the ping effect you get with acrylics,I do use them from time to time but I get the arse very quickly with them.
Thanks' for looking, glad you like the result's.
Best Regards

Paul you've really done this kit justices ,it pops right out that this guy is somewhere cold and damp ,
I think this is one of the best 120mm kits ever made and wish I'd bought one when Kirin were still being made .
I saw one for sale on ebay a few weeks back but it was obviously a recast coming from Hong Kong but I was really TEMPTED , if the seller had'nt be so greedy with the posting charge I think I would have gone for it .
Again great work Paul .

Excellent painting - the rain effect is a great idea!

I really hope I can get hold of one of these kits. I bought the Kirin highland clansman at Euro last year but haven't started it yet.

Hi all,
I'm pleased by your comments, and thank you for taking the time, even though my pictures are rubbish, now I hope it lives up to expectations in the flesh?
It will be at Euro this year,Its very reare for me to buy a kit at Euro and enter it the fallowing year,I picked the kit up from "francminiatures" not sure of the spelling?
For too much in my oppinion,I did try to haggle......... but no! £68.00.
I guess its fair,it was unopened.
Each year I try and find old figures that I've always wanted,I've been hunting for Tiny Troopers (Mike French) 90mm of Col Douglas 1854,for an age now..
Bill (Horan) painted one many years ago and I fell in love with it,been on the wish list ever since.
Back to the Dragoon,I did have to do a fair amount of fettling to do to get it to fit right, the sper's were missing and the spike on the helmet had snaped off,so I had to make new ones of each.
Painting it, I was worried about over doing it,I look at it now and think I could of done things a little better but thats me! I look at it too much and know my flaw's I guess...
If your at Euro this year, please make yourself's known to me,its always nice to put a face to a name;-)
Best Regards
Paul

The Mike French Col Douglas is the other old figure I really want! I've seen Bill Horan's version too - amazing painting. I bought the Kirin highland clansman for 100 Euros - I think it was from the Franc Miniatures stall - madness probably I know but I really wanted it after seeing the 90's Military Modelling article - Horan painted the box art. There are a lot of parts to glue! Brilliant sculpting though - one of the best kits I've seen.

I envy you for the painting and I envy you for having this kit as well over here as well :D

Looking forward to see this one Paul........

Keep safe

Ray ;)
