Hello Everyone,

First post on this interesting forum.

I would like to paint some figures from the Seven Years/French and Indian War period. I have found several manufacturers that offer Rogers Rangers, and I've seen a French marine but was looking for others. I would most like to see British, French, Prussion or Austrian regulars. Also a Royal American grenadier would be a great find. Resin or metal is fine but resin preferred. Any suggestions of manufactures or retailer sites would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Paul, Welcome. Check out Michael roberts Limited they have a few figures you may be interested in.~Gary

Paul hi

David Grieve has done a couple of figures from this period in 90-100mm.

They are top notch, and if your not familar with Davids work its worth finding. His current range is now dealt with via Debra Raymond Military Figures . His older stuff has been via several different firms over the years.

Pete,

Thats exactly what I am looking for. You led me to find that same figure at Red Lancers here in the US. Thanks for the direction. Any others?

I highly suggest considering the 120mm 42nd Highlander from United Empire. Photo below for reference. What is an added attraction is the choice of head gear. In this case I used the TAM.

Wow Walt, that looks great! Did you find paiting the tartan a little intimidating? I've never tried that yet but the period demands it. :)

Actually the Tarton even with all its folds was far easier than the hose. I found a piece of cloth with a tarton pattern, folded it in the same manner as the figure wears it, and then used it as a model. Seemed to work fine, and far easier than trying to be the expert draftsman and figure it out cold turkey. The hose were a different matter especially as this guy has some muscular calves and you need to work out the "strech" in the pattern as you paint over the calf and slope down to the slender ankles. I found the only way I could do this was to pencil in the design. Also having a seam helps hide any slight misalignment as you try to join up the pattern ( Actually just like on the real thing).

He was part of a 5 piece set I did of the French and Indian War. The Highlander, the 120mm Huron from PiliPili, George Washington bust 1755 from Pony Soldier, 90mm Rogers Ranger from Cruix de Guerre, and a 120mm French Marine from Nemrod. They display well together.

Photo of the Ranger attached. Metal, 90mm and from the 80's, so to find one today outside of eBay near impossible.
