Title says it all. I fancy doing a figure or bust of the Napolionic period. I am not concerned with nationality as military painting is something I just need to develop. However, I am rubbish at fine detail so I am less interested in dress uniform as the thought of painting endless braid and medals with ribbons just terrifies me.

Also, nothing too small. Possibly 75mm min for a figure and 1/12 for a bust, bigger the better within reason. I would also prefer something easily available from a UK supplier.

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be gratefully received.

Graham,
I'd suggest going to the Historex Agents website. At the top left is a box for finding a product. Type in 'bust' and press Go.
You'll get 7 pages of busts.
Pages 5 and 6 have Verlinden busts, many of which are Napoleonic. Some of them are very good, while some have a strange 'toothy' style. Most are under £20.
You should find something interesting there.

Cheers,
Andrew

If you are looking for a good bust I can recommend Alexandros Miniatures. They have a great bust from Napoleon, with a great likeness.
I'm doing it now at the moment.

Thanks guys, the bust of Napoleon looks very nice but too much 'regalia' which I am poor at. However, might be a good one to get and put in storage :). Off to the Historex site to browse.

Nicely done Gells. Quite like the whole trio but Wellington has far too many trinkets. The Napoleon bust is a potential though.

Ten minutes on the Historex site and I have far too many contenders now lol.

CGS miniatures have a good selection which you might like to look at. I've dealt with the company recently and they provide an excellent service.

Cheers

Graham in my own honest opinion I would start from the basis that many Russian, Austrian and Prussian uniforms are plainer but still colourful, as are the British Heavy Cavalry troopers
If you then have a go at some of the older Bonaparte and Historex busts, you could then switch over to the mulit-braided, layered belting and highly ornamentated
style figures later on once you have been infected successfully by the Napoleonic bu,g and become a fully fledged member of the "proper models faction":D

It would be very interesting to know what you choose to begin with

go on Graham have a go mate, to quote one of our contributors from another thread, and it's my fave subtle quip recently

"Come on guys! Are we mice or me......... Ooooo cheese, back in a bit just seen something I need to eat.......

Then perhaps the new addition from 'Bonapartes',. @ 250mm. Which is a big 'auld bugger'! :D (Although Pricey)! However, when you look at it, the dominant colours would be 'Greys, Blacks, and white's, of varying hues and shades. At this size the kit he is carrying should be easy enough to develop. It seems to be one of those pieces where you could go to town on weathering.

It is just a thought! (y)
