I'm a new guy to PF and I have a question, I hope I'm posting this properly.

About 100 years ago (approx) I saw a kit of 2 soldiers leading a Vietnamese prisoner. I think either Bong Son or Phu My was in the title. I don't remember the name of the company that produced and I don't think the company or the kit lasted very long.
If anyone happens to have any more information I would appreciate it and if by some remote chance someone has it in their gray army and is willing to part with it I would be interested in purchasing it. Thanks

Deauville ?

No that's not the one I'm looking for. Deauville wasn't the manufacturer and I'm pretty sure the prisoner was standing (walking) with his hands on his head.
Thank you for trying to help and the quick reply.

That is an old 120mm resin kit featuring two U.S. Army soldiers leading a Viet Cong prisoner. The kit was titled 'The Battle of Bong Son" and I remember one of the Army figures is wearing a U.S. Navy wet weather pull over, which was pretty a good catch by the sculptor. The kit was sculpted from a photograph which was taken during the battle.:

Unfortunately, I do not remember who produced the kit, but I do know it was produced in the late 90's and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it for sale through the now defunct VLS catalog. I did a quick google search for the kit and found nothing.

Yep, that's the one. It never ceases to amaze me the knowledge and memories that PF members have (must be younger than me). Thanks much for all the info.

Iv'e never seen the kit but if the sculptor captured the drama of the photograph it would've been a superb kit...

I served in the army in the Bong Son area and when I first saw the kit, and the name, it really struck a chord with me. Many times I watched that exact scenario as the prisoners were taken to be interrogated. The kit was always on my wish list but back then something more important always came up.

It must've been a very distressing sight. Its certainly a mesmerizing photo so I cant imagine the things you witnessed. I'm quite into the Vietnam area myself. Read the Tunnels of Cu Chi book a while back that was really engrossing. I'm currently sculpting a 75mm army LRRP guy, which I have to admit I'm rather enjoying apart from having to sculpt an M16 A1 which is a bit of pain the arse!! Only about 30% in at the moment but its coming along.

I own a 1967 Colt M16 A1 with no forward assist right in front of me but a lot of good it does me...I can't sculpt!
Good luck with your 75mm LRRP. I'll be looking forward to seeing it posted on PF.

Luckily there's several photos and I do own a few great books on the Vietnam War. Thanks, Ill post in the sculpting section when complete.

It's long OOP...it was produced by Harper Castings if I recall correctly. It was in 1/16th scale.
I've had a couple sets over the years - so I know a few people here have them in their grey armies.

Good luck it's a tough one to find.

Steve

A similar one was done in 54 mm from Kirin or Jaguar,I think..........only with a Japanese soldier with two Marines from the island hopping campaign 1943/44?

Hi Buckaroo..

Steve is right the 1/16th kit was produced by "Harper Castings" and it is very rare, in the 5-6 years that i have been into figures i've never seen one for sale in any web shop or online auction..

I'm lucky enough to own a copy which i acquired from Steve (Engeee) a couple of years back..

Good luck in finding one..

Regards Ian

Your a Lucky Duck Ian, thanks for the conformation I'll just keep my fingers crossed and continue looking.

I'll try and get pictures of the box-art and kit contents over to you this weekend so you'll know what to look out for..

I'm looking for figures from a similar kit, although this one is a pair of GI's helping a wounded comrade, it was originally released by "Belgo" and then later "Dream Catcher" and each figure was sold separately.

If anyone reading this has any of these figures, especially the guy in the "Boonie Hat" i would be interested in buying it/them..

I believe the "The Lost Battalion" re-released them as a x3 piece kit for a short time so i would settle for them if the "Belgo" and "Dream Catcher" boxed kits were not available..

I would really appreciate pictures, that way I can see how close they match the images I've been carrying around in my head all these years. Thanks again for the information you've provided Ian and good luck with your search.
