Does anyone have a source for just the plinth bottoms like the circled part in the photo?

Hi, if it’s just the flat bit at the bottom complete with a textured finish, I would recommend the range of resin bases (in all shapes and sizes) from Model Display Products which are exceedingly good value for money .......and a spray can of textured paint.
See modeldisplayproducts.co.uk for a full list.
Or even a sprinkling of sand over a coat of glue!
hope this helps
Nigel.

I'm not concerned about the texture finish I figured this was just bad milling on this one. I have collected a large amount of interesting pieces of wood when splitting firewood and would prefer to mount them on the milled bottom piece. All of the different retailers of display plinths seem to have this common template, maybe they are all using the same router bit.

Richard (Oakwood Studios) often uses a resin base when he does a black base. Still has a little grain texture.

You can get ones made from MDP from some hardware and craft stores too.

I think the textured finish came from the base being made from MDF. Rather than using wood some suppliers are making resin plinths to mount the wood on. The finish is much neater and of course the resin can offer a variety of colours and shapes.

Hope that helps

Keith

Not strictly true. I have a few which I can see the wood and the finish is a bit rough at the end of the grain.
