Hi everyone!

Inspired by Grant (Gelso) I pushed myself to finish this little one from Mitche's.
It is my first attempt to paint a conventional bust (with a face) - previous one had a mask :)
so really just trying to find my feet. I am acutely aware that eyes need to be better.
I used oils over acrylics, overall trying to go similar to works of Anastasiya and Captain Lol

I hope you like it, completely open to feedback

Looks very nice to me. Personally I would go with more shading on his face, particularly in the dark shadow areas. But that's personal taste and your photography may be washing out some of the shading you have done.

Hi Dimitri,

This looks like a fine effort and I am amazed that this is only your 2nd bust. I think the question of highlighting and shading is very personal and depends if you want to keep the project looking natural or want to make it "pop" for the competition table.

See you at Figureworld?.....................Keith

Hi guys,

Thank you very much! It will lack contrast if you look at it same way as most busts are currently painted, I am trying out an idea that in bust scale there is enough actual physical shadows to avoid need for extreme shadows and highlights, although, Colin, you are right, pics are crap:dead: there is a little bit more contrast than it shows.

Nice job,
I like the flesh tones and also the depth created in the uniform.
I'm not sure about the sheen though. Are the oils still drying and will you spray some dullcoat over him?
Ta,
Gells

The sheen is almost gone now, I think oils weren't quite dry at that stage, but for some reason acrylic base colour was quite shiny too. I will play with photography in next few days and see if I can improve.

Cracking job Dimitri and only your second too.
One simple observation is that the gauge of the 'rod' between bust and plinth would benefit from being quite a bit heavier or at least cut shorter.
Currently it looks a bit temporary.
Otherwise a very nice finish on a very recognisable historical individual, so nowhere to hide with painting this.

Hi Derek, thank you!

Rod is definitely temporary, still has primer on it I think, I just stuck it in a base to take some pictures. I will mount it on a more suited base at some point.

To be honest this one was just a practice to paint - Grod kindly gave me a "no-go" one with few defects and I managed to rescue it, so I never thought it would come up nice enough.
