...deep in the west!
Hello guys!

I've been a bit quite lately, so I want to show you my current work in progress.
It's a prepainted Lord of the Rings Battletroll bust from WETA/Sideshow.
I have stripped off the thick factory paint and repainted it.
Here are a few stages it went thought, the past few days.

After stripping off the paint and uncovering the very fine detailed sculpted surface I basecoated it with my trusty white car primer and painted on some first layers of grey and light kakhi. Eyes, mouth and nose received a few subtle washings with pink and light red.

Then I added some spots here and there and washed the skin with more darker muddy and grey tones. The inside of the mouth was washed with some darker blood red.

... to be continued ...

Here I have advanced much further allready.
I shadowed down the skin much more and painted the helmet with metallics and brown inks for the worn, rusty effect.
I also painted the eyes and teeth and highlighted the skin around the nose and chin.

Well, I hope you like it so far.
Of course all kinds of comments and questions are welcome, as usual.

Love the metal effects on the helmet, any chance of sharing with us in how you painted it ,what paints you used etc, etc.
Brian

Thanks for the kind words!

Sure, Brian, your're welcome.
Well, first I painted the whole helmet with some chainmail metal.
Then I washed it with thin layers of some darker metal paint (some old Ral Partha "Steel") for the shading. Then I drybrushed it softly with some silver metal paint.
For the "rust" effect I used washes of Vallejo Model Inks "Skin Wash" and "Sepia". The "Skin Wash" ink is particularly great for rust simulation. And the "Sepia" gives it more depth. Both inks dry wunderfully matt which is perfect for the rust effect.

But when all will be finished and the whole bust is sealed off with some clear matt varnish, I will apply some 2 component real rust paint for the final rust effect.
This will look even cooler, like on this one:

Of course, I'll keep you updated.
