It's a sad day for the Civil War Historical and Preservationist community as they announce the passing of Historian and Preservationist Brian Pohanka.

Those who enjoyed watching the History Channel's "Civil War Journal" will recognize Mr. Pohanka as one of the many knowledgable historians whose commentaries were a large part of each episode.

The following link is to the CWPT website announcement of Mr. Pohanka's passing.~Gary

Gary, Thanks for the news. Sad to hear such. I always enjoyed reading his insightful comments on my favorite period of history. He certainly looked the part of a Zouave! May he rest in peace...

Sincerely,

Terry Martin

Gary,
I was really taken by the photo that you posted of Mr. (don't know if he had his Ph.d) Pohanka, and am now planing on doing a figure or possibly a bust of it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Matt, I was thinking of doing a bust of him also. What I would likely do is either donate some of the money from the purchase of the master, or see if a manufacturer would donate a small amount of each sale in his memory for battlefield preservation. Naturally I would want to get the okay to use the photo and I'd probably let some time pass out of resprect for Mr. Pohanka's family during this difficult time.~Gary

Very sad news indeed. I was fortunate enough to have participated in a couple reenactments with him. Aside from seeing him in his AWESOME zouave officer impression, it was a real pleasure hearing him speak so passionately of CW battlefield preservation.

May he rest in peace.
