hi planeteers!! i would like to present my latest Work-In-Progress---a bust of an officer with horse of a Madras Light Cavalry regiment in India, 1857. 90% is finished, a bit of finishing & a proper base remains---I have tried to represent as much as possible from the images but a lot of details had to be simplified for the ease of making. There are 2 options for the pose--- The inspiration for this piece comes from Andrew Cairns' aussie light horse bust with a similar pose---
Height of the human is 80mm approx.
Materials used--GI wire for armature, Aluminium foil for bulking, 2 part epoxy for building the muscles, a mix of epoxy and plasticine clay (the grey mix) is for detailing and copper wire for the details on the shirt---
I m hoping to cast this in resin (& probably try 1 in metal) and the kit will consist of 7 parts...---
Crits & comments are more than welcome!!

P.S- If anyone has more images or info on the uniforms from this era in India i would be really glad to have them as i m planning to continue on a series based in the indian sub-continent.

Regards from India!!!

Hello Abhijit, I'll leave any comments on your sculpting to those better qualified but the shako in the photo 1 looks fine but in 3 looks to be too large. If it's the same shako which I suspect it is then be careful with the photo's.
Great subject though, I and a few other here have an interest in the Indian Army of the 19th and early 20th centuries and have quite a few books between us so if you post any specific questions you have I'm sure we'll be able to help out.

Roger.

great idea but the horses head is too low as these beasts are bigger than a man the head would be pointing down unless the man is a very tall bloke and the shako does look a little large in pic 3 unless its the position of the arm witch is to high if holding a helmet /hat but these are only my comments and love the idea keep up the great work (y)

thank you for having a look--yes the shako in pic 3 is the same as in the 1st pic---the optional pose with the shako in hand just 'happened' & was not planned..--ya after posing the human & the horse together i realized some flaws & will try to correct them as much as possible now--I am trying to make a 'series' of soldiers in the Indian subcontinent (the napoleonic era being my favorite period) ....---for this, apart from very few Osprey books based on the indian subcontinent & some images floating on the internet, i do not have much information in terms of full (battle) uniforms---It will be of great help if i can get images, pdfs etc. of this period for reference in sculpting

Regards from India!!!
