Hi everyone;

Just a quick post to share my latest piece with you. This is Pegaso's Magister Militum figure in 75mm. I tried to change him a bit to make him more historically accurate. Seeing as Roman officers would not wear a leather cuirass into battle, I added an edge of putty along the bottom of the breast plate to make it look seperate and to facilitate the painting of it in bronze. My thanks to the people at the Medrom forum and those of you here that offered your advice during the past months.

Naturally, your comments and criticisms would be most welcome

Very nice, Glenn. Overall a really nice effect. I'd love to see some closeups on the figure and the groundwork, too.

Thanks again for offering it up for auction Jay, it was a lot of fun to paint, and to research too. I was especially pleased with the shield which represents a member of the "Domestici pedites" or a foot soldier of the house guard from the Eastern Empire (all according to the Notitia Dignitatum site of late Roman Shield patterns). So who says you can't learn and have fun too!
As for close ups Keith, I'm afraid my camera skills would just disappoint everyone. I'll repost some of the same pictures without reducing the size, and that might do the trick. Cheers.

reposted closeup pics

So here we are. As I said, my camera and photographic skills are just not up to par so I am resubmitting the same pics, only larger in the hopes that this will allow people to get a better look.

I hope this does the trick. Thanks for looking everyone.

Neat painting on a great piece indeed. I really like the fleshtones and great idea on the cuirass.

Nicely done, Glenn. I like your depiction of this strking sculpt; you've really done it justice. I think you've especially done a nice job on the cuirass and on the shield.

Great painting all around!

Nice work mate and a clever idea about the rim and the bronze armour :p :p .

One point of criticism is that it looks like you forgot to paint the leather straps on the back of the helmet and the leather rim around the neck guard and the ears :D :D :D :D :D :D :D !!!!!!

Thanks again for your comments guys. Periklis, I didn't forget to paint the leather trim, I didn't even know that there was leather trim to paint! This is an oversight I intend to fix right away, as I really wanted to go for an accurate figure historically speaking. Thanks for pointing it out.

This is a wonderful piece of work! It looks fantastic! I really like the skin tones, they're very realistic as opposed to the toy-like effects you see on those Alpine Miniature figures.

Nice one!
