Dan, Thank you. This is the best way to do an sbs. It's important to see that sculpting a figure does not come without it's own pitfalls. I'd rather show that it's not an effortless process.~Gary
 
I have just finished the lower leg portions of the leggings and bottom right side of the waistcoat. This set of photos were taken in black and white so the folds may show up better this way.

A rolled out piece of putty was pressed down onto the front of the leg and slowly worked to the back of the leg. Care was taken to keep the putty as thin as possible on the areas where an actual legging would be tight.

Most of the folds were worked into the ankle area and just below the knee. I did not do all the folds around the side and back of the ankle as the raised flap will be placed here and the folds would not be seen.

Excellent. This thing is really going quickly and looking good. Terrific mocs and leggings.
 
John, Thanks. It is going quickly, a little more than what I'm used to. After all this putty cures I'm going to go in and work some of the wrinkles down as they look a bit large to me. I'm happy with the shapes so far. This figure has me itching to do a 75mm commercial piece from the period, so this helps to get me warmed up.~Gary
 
Gary, I am enjoying following your work here, especially the subject matter. I did miss the scale however...75mm??

Walt, Thanks. Great to see you on the planet. This is a 1/35 one off, I am however contemplating a 75mm figure for possible commercial production. I have not settled on the subject, although there are three that come to mind. More later.

I'm tuning in kinda late, but I just wanted to say what a great SBS this is! BTW, before you started adding the clothing, and it was still a mannequin he totally looked like Vin Diesel. It kept cracking me up.

Anders, Thanks a lot. I guess I owe the rate at which this is getting done to my study of the period and having worn similiar garments I my reenacting days way back when. Things will slow down a bit so the figure can be cleaned up a bit. The one drawback facing me is possibly having to do a 1/35 "Brown Bess" as my 54mm may be a bit large.~Gary

Francesca, Thanks. Yeah he does kinda look like him. If you were to fill out the face a bit you could do a character from one of his movies.~Gary
 
Very smart sculpting! There was a bag of Brown Bess in 1/35 scale by Scale Model Accesories. Unfortunately, I think they are out of business.
I expect to see more :)
