That British light infantryman is horrible. Masterclass? That has got to be one of the worst figures I've ever seen. YUK!.~Gary

I wouldn't want to shake that hand either. But the Louis is marvellous. The Mamaluke is boring (how many of those does the market need?)

Sculpted by the person who did the Mamaluke?!....Stefano Borin? Can't be! It's not the same quality.

I agree w/ Gary....Horrible piece!

I don't know if you fellas are looking at the same figure as I am, but that Mamluke is excellent. It has a great poise about it, and to me this is a 'must have' figure........it would be boring if we all had the same opinion wouldn't it?

The King Louis figure is one that is familiar to planteers and we've all praised it before, it is a real stand out figure in many ways.

But that AWI figure is not in that category at all. That right hand simply looks wrong. Might be a bit harsh as sometimes photgraphy can give a false impression.

I feel confident enough to say that it is a good photograph of a terrible figure. I would be totally ashamed to commercially produce that, then again I don't think the folks I've sculpted for would touch it with a ten foot pole.~Gary

Not only is the right hand of the AWI figure bad, but the entire figure looks like it was put together from a spare parts box - it's totaly out of proportion. Pity, the subject is of great interest.
Ric :(

Now I've had a better look, you're spot on Gary. The legs do not seem to belong to that figure at all. Odd as Masterclass have released some beautiful figures, and the ones I have are gems.

Figures like Il Re Sole (Luigi XIV) seems to be a recurring theme, there is also an (old) Luigi XV from Aitna Model.

Even if the Re Sole resemble so much the Borin's style, in my opinion Sartorello has a well defined way, take a look at his Mameluk.

Just a Quick historical note, the Imperial Guard TIMBALIER (KETTLEDRUMMER)is not a "Mameluke", many of them come from the Egyptian Campaign but they were Coptic, Africans or Arabs origins, (The Timbalier of the Dragons de L'Imperatrice came from Martinique) usually spectaculary clad in Oriental or Polish Style, who rode at the head on the ceremonial occasions.

This is going to my wish list but I don't know How to paint the african flesh tones.

Best Regards
Eduardo Tellez.

Nice one Eduardo, you obviously know your stuff mate!

You raise the point of painting African flesh tones as well, and this is something that I'm keen to learn. Perhaps another Planteer could help?

Incidently, does anybody know who stock this figure? I've tried Masterclass website, but my Italian doesn't stretch that far, and there was no link to buy them anyway...

cheers folks

The Masterclass website seems a perfect example about what you must avoid when setting up such things. Objects not found, inexistent pages, links showing the vbcode scripting instead the html page and so on.
This dealer was the best I tried when still in Italy. Don't know about shipping charges for UK, but if you need help with translation I'll do it for you.
About african tones, this is the best link I know, if I remember correctly it was pointed out on Lilliput, but not sure at all.

Nice one Luca. That article by Chrispy first appeared on CMON and the english version resides here for those who would like to know

Dear Luca many thanks for the help. The figure isn't on there anyway. I'll wait until Historex Agents get hold of it.

I have looked at the article of painting different ethnic groups and it is facinating and very very useful. I would very heartily recommend it to other planeteers.

Nice one Rob. My schoolboy French was found out, thanks for link mate!

Hi, Thanks for the comments Anthony, I talk to Gray from Colorado Miniatures, and the toll me that the timbalier would be available in 2-3 weeks, lets see how much patience we have.

Luca Great article, Roman Navarro make some mix on US (Black) Infantryman in a discussion on the lilliput forum some time ago, when I have the figure I would give it a try. Just love the photo of Monica Bellucci, she is so beatifull
