Interesting view - I never saw the events mentioned by Gra as a conflict of frustrated mods or as a conflict between nations.
It just seemed to me that accuracy issues did not matter for some sculptors, producers and their followers and that the so-called rivet counters were blamed for spoiling the business, the forum and the hobby as a whole when they pointed their finger at problems. Anatomical, historical etc. flaws of certain releases are still there - till today IMHO - but the intention was never to hurt somebody but to give honest (and helpful) feedback (backed by references) - when it was taken in the way described by Gra it did not make sense any longer. That was and is the reason why I took that step back. If input is not seen as beneficial no need to waste time. There was never a problem with humor involved and the reasons for the changes of the Timelines Forum (and the way the forum was managed by mods) were not the same IMHO.
But the topic of this thread was if members can be convinced to return.
Maybe the only way to support this and prevent the leaving of others is to deal with each other in a fair and constructive way - national and personal grudges should be avoided when posting a comment - and finally we need to accept that everybody has the right to his opinion as Ron put it.
But that`s not a breakthrough of a new idea on the topic I am afraid:).
Best wishes, Martin

A lot of top modellers have left for the simple reason they are now on putty and paint ; which to me is a rather soulless forum
if you can call it that . Don't get me wrong the work is excellent but just no chit chat .

People come and go , move on ect ; but am leaving always brings a smile to my face as it reminds me of my work when gangs of bricklayers say were chucking it and then come back looking for their job .

I have not been very active on the forum of late as I have taken a career change at the age of 69 :LOL: and retrained as a tele handler and now running a bio mass renewable energy plant , but now it is commissioned I will have some time on here again
and maybe even get some painting done.

PS as a footnote : if yo wanna leave just do so quietly; that way you can always come back :D

Although most of us never set out to offend and hope our comments will be seen as a help not a hindrance, some posters will take offence at certain posts. I suppose the concept of 'freedom of speech' also carries the freedom to be offended by others' views.............

true - and the freedom of being offended leads possibly to the freedom to leave the forum (and to return) - the freedom of offending and abusing others as the sole purpose of postings is still never an option IMHO - it`s a hobby and not the world.

I recall once I was thrown off a forum (as I learnt later I was one of many) for offering an accurate model part correction I’d scratchbuilt at cost until the mould was useless. I was suspended and told the forum must not be used for commercial sales. I tried to explain the nonprofit part and was then excommunicated without further explanation.

This forum is more welcoming.

I'm still here, however, other commitments mean that I am unable to log in every day.
Keep it friendly folks, life is too short.(y)

I made a constructive comment about a bit of horse tack on another members work in progress that he could have easily corrected and improve the look of his work. I got a rather a protracted rant over more than one message board and a demand I should leave or be banned ( I can't remember which). I was quite shocked at this reaction. Luckily other members sprang to my defense.

I now avoid this member!

I want to enjoy the hobby not fight over it.

I can sympathize with Colin!
