Why not achieve both: sculpt the hair together with the face, but pick a point in time whereby some of his face is showing in-between his hair strands :joyful:.
That way, you get to see both, like so:
Hope this helps :woot:.
Cheers!
Kenneth.

Thanx Kenneth... You think I should be alright trying to paint the face through the hair? It's probably easier than trying to sculpt over a painted fig.
I'll give it a try

Thanx for the advise

Colin

Colin - perhaps his sweater is a tad short given it's a hockey jersey? It should be easy to add a little if so. Re. his hair - i would sculpt and prime the whole thing and then paint it. If you paint the head and then sculpt hair, you are never going to get under the hair to paint the underside.

Looks nice. I can tell you are getting the hang of the MS.

Colin

Any thoughts or hints would be great... I need all the help I can get :arghh:
Colin

Hi Colin, looks good :)

see if this helps - just an opinion. Length of humerus is longer than forearm and also shoulder width run out a bit. Also he needs a bit of chest volume in the back. it would seem that buttocks need to be touch higher - but it may be that baggy trousers can obscure it.

Totally agree. Looking forward to see it on July 7.
Cheers,
Zeno

Thanx for the imput everyone... much appreciated

@Colin- I misnamed the shirt, its really more of a loose fitting, long sleeved t-shirt, comes down to just around the hip. I'm going to follow the hint of sculpting the whole thing complete before priming and painting.

@Gaudin- I agree there are some issues with arm length but at this point I think they're beyond adjustment ;) For the upper back there is some compression from the guitar strap and he's sorta leaning forward over the guitar, digging in to his solo.

@Zeno- Thx man, I will be bringing him to the Sentry, whatever state he's in at the time.

I'm gonna see if I can adress the issues brought up above, without tearing him down and starting from scratch. Basically, I'll carry on and push to the finished product and knowing the shortcomings, I can take care to watch out for and correct them on my next attempt. It's a learning process, hopefully with each attempt, I'll see where progress is being made from each figure... and there BETTER be progress!

Thanx for the hints and advise everyone

Always a good approoach. Perfectionsim is a recipe for never finishing anything.

Ooooh I like that! Now I have a perfect excuse  Seriously, I agree, I'd rather be able to look back on earlier sculpts (as I do with my painting) and see the record of my mistakes as also the record of my improvements. Maybe on the 7th you can have a look and get a better idea of what I need to focus on and how to approach correcting my issues.
One thing I know for sure... The road to improvement is time and just doing more and more sculpting until it becomes less forced. Then what's in my head has a better chance of ending up in the putty.

Thanx so much for all your support

Thanx alot Daniel
My skill is just barely a beginner right now but now with the Magic Sculpt I feel more comfortable with the material... and can start to concentrate on technique. Thanx for the vote of confidence.
Since he died I've been wearing out my Slayer CD library... My buddy at work (who's a country fan) threatened to cut his own ears off if I play Reign in Blood one more time... I told him to go ahead, they're not my ears :p

Colin

Colin mate you are light years ahead of me in sculpting so I got no advice there, except to say it looks like the man so that in it's self is good enough I'd say. Re the hair/ face thing why not sculpt the hair as a separate piece, paint the face then just add the hair ?
