I think that I will now finish off this little horse-tub area .
All the major components of the diorama are now build and just need a little finishing. The lighting is 95% done and just needs to be hooked up.
There is still quite a bit of work to be done on the landscaping around the hangar but this is usually fun to do.
Oh! I almost forgot the guys on "tea time" have yet to be positioned and painted. The end of February and I think that I am just about on schedule .
This is an exciting time to finally see it all coming together.
Not a lot of creative stuff left to do so......
Now my mind is starting to wander to the backyard flier project ,which I am really looking forward to as the storyline leaves me lots of room to be creative. How would I have designed my flier ,in my backyard, had I had been a young man back then?

This is the part of diorama making that I agonize over the most. The proper placement of the different objects in their environment ,so it looks natural.
Too much and it looks overdone ,too little at it looks unfinished. What to leave in and what to leave out is critical to the overall composition.
I don't follow any rules in regard to this but just let my eye tell me when it looks about right. The little bit of foliage and objects that you see here took hours to place but I still am not completely happy with it.
The whole area needs more weathering and some of the grass is still too green.Rather than the airbrush which I find adds too much color too quickly, I think that I will experiment a bit with the old toothbrush flicking method of subtly adding some straw (Fall) color to the green.

New 1/16th figures!
Here is a couple of new figures from Trumpeter Models of WW2 Soviet tank personnel. Nice relaxed poses of a couple of smokers on break!
With a few mods to their clothing they could be used as mechanics or pilots from any era!

November in Canada.
Here in Eastern Canada we usually get our first snow around Nov15.My diorama is depicting the afternoon of Rememberence Day(Nov11) in the 1920's.No frost or snow on the ground but lots of Fall colours. Some grassy areas can still be quite green this time of year but the bushes and brush etc.. will have taken on their Fall coloration by now. Most airports are pretty devoid of trees so I haven't even put any leaves on the ground.
Yellow ochre or oxide air sprayed over medium green gives a nice place to start.I use both acrylics and pastels together to get the effect that I want.
This stuff does not come easy to me and I kind of learn as I go along.Maybe it is my lack of artists training that forces me to reinvent the wheel but then again it also makes it easier to break the rules!
