Good morning all.
I'm looking for some finer points on achieving better results with metal finishes.
I got the basic idea down for building up layers of highlights etc but am looking for that extra tweak.
I work in oils on an acrylic base.
I have the printers inks for the metal finish.
I've got steel down fairly well but am starting some busts with bronze, brass etc.
Now all I need is some hard learned tricks of the obcession.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jonathan
PS. Don't no where your at but painting season has arrived in Cumbria... loads of wind and rain;)

Hi Johnathan , in the past I liked to use Humbrol enamels Mixed with oil paints but over the years the enamels have changed and don't work so well . So now I have moved to using Acrylics and blending in oils . What I suggest is to get 2 or 3 shades of acrylic in golds , bronze , iron etc then paint the item in the darker acrylic when its dry start adding in small dots and blending out the various oil colours , when your happy with the amount of shading or weathering let the oils dry then add highlights with the lighter metal colours . Some good oil paints for shading and weathering are black , burnt sienna , yellow ochre, mars brown and on steel or iron a small amount of indigo .
