Completed Mexican Revolutionary

Trying to get through my grey army before the summer comes round,just finished this bust which is produced by pegaso in 200mm scale and depicts a mexican soilder from the revolution.
Although this is not a period i have studied or read about i was quite impressed with the bust when i saw it displayed on the pegaso stand at last years Euro Militaire so i decided to purchase it.
When i decide to paint a paticular figure from my grey army i'm sometimes inspired perhaps by something i've read or seen on TV to start a paticular project and this was the case with this bust,i recently watched a re-run of the film The Magnificent Seven and seeing the bandits in this film it got me thinking about the bust.
The bust is based on a mexican revolutionary soilder bt i could'nt help keep thinking of the film while i was painting it,as i said earlier i dont know much about the revolution and have no books on the subject so i decided to go with the box art apart from the blanket roll.
The bust is produced in resin and comes in 4x parts,care needs to be taken as 1x part is the sombrero chin ties which are very delicate,the bust is very well sculpted with excellent fit of parts and hardly any filling was required.
The bust was undercoated with GW chaos black which was then followed by basecoats in acrylic and then finished in oils,a nice simple piece to paint and i'm glad i purchased it as it looks different in my collection.
I am also pleased to announce to my fellow miniaturists there is NO BLOOD in site which some of you will be pleased about.
I would recomend this bust to anyone thinking of having a change,it really is a lovely little piece.

Great paintwork, but i may have my doubts for some things.
I think you are going to far in your hightlight. In almost all the colors you ended with white! Some people call it overpainted.
Maybe some washes could do the job.

Lovely work on the whole Brian, the sombrero is especially nice. I have to agree with Marc though, I think you have gone a touch to far with the highlighting. It's on the face where it's most evident, that is unless it's the photos, and you were going for the extreme contrast look. I think it works OK in smaller scales, but this is quite a large piece.
Still after all that waffle I really like it, and would paint it myself, if it wasn't for the stupid price.

Cool on so many levels.
I find it refreshing to see a figure painted in these colors and tones....everyone seems to have gone over to the Dark Side for the drama and effect. But there are actually bright colors still in the world. And they still make for a damn good figure.

Brian, excellent painting.The skin tone is very appropriate, but blue eyes are not very common in Mexico, I think. However, I share the view of Megroot, it seems that the lights are too bright, although it may be due to the photo. Anyway, each must have its own style, right?.

Thanks eduardo for your coments,its definately the photo's where the white is showing,yes i do agree with you about style,i'm still learning the art of painting figures and learning as i go along,it would'nt pay for us to have all the same style.

I think a gradation of a hat is wonderful.
