Another January show has come and gone here in Michigan. A fun time was had by all (especially the kiddies slapping paint on their figs at the painting table).

We had a good representation of scale, era, and type. In other words, there was a little bit of everything from armor to figures, from ancient to modern, from historical to sci-fi and fantasy, from 28mm to 1/6. Also on display was the various versions of this year's club figure.

MHMC (Michigan Historical Miniatures Club) chose Romeo's Crusader Knight XII Century as the club figure, primarily because of the many different possibilities available when painting so we all didn't have to paint the figure exactly the same. The first pic is a group picture of the little guys, and as you can see, they are all indeed painted differently. (Some of us painted them more differently than others. :D )

The rumors are flying about next year's show. It is sounding like it will be moved to March (or thereabouts) and will be on Saturday rather than Sunday.

I am sorry to say that I cannot put names with all of the figure pics, but here is a sampling of what was at the show. As an aside, there are usually a good number of reenactors in full uniform (they get into the show for free), so there are a couple pics. Well, Custer was there to promote a line of figures. Too bad I missed taking a pics of the guy in full mail.

More pics of the show will be available soon at www.MichiganHistoricalMiniaturesClub.com

Awards

Besides the usual awards (gold, silver, bronze ribbons), we also have the Best of Show as voted by the participants and People's Choice as voted by any and all who are at the show. This year, Dave Youngquist's "The Thousand Yard Stare" won both BOS and PC. (Or as described by the younger set, "the guys in the mine".) In addition to those two awards, Dave was also awarded the Michigan Award given to those who help grow the hobby in Michigan. Dave's tireless dedication to teaching painting technique and aptly living up to the "Paint or Die" club motto made him an obvious choice for this award. It's people like Dave who make this hobby so special. The Michigan Award is not given annually, it is only awarded when someone stands out as deserving the recognitition. (OK, I'm done embarassing you Dave. :D )

Looks like it was a great show Wendy. I'll take a look on Michigan Toy's site to see the rest of the pics. Thanks for posting the report. Wish I could of been there.

Looks like a great show Wendy.
Thanks for sharing it.
Love the "guys in the mine".

Thanks for the comments, gents. :)

Vergilius, I hope other people took more pics of the BOS. At the very least, when pics are added (thanks Wayne!) to the club website, thumbnails will link to a full size pic rather than the one I've shrunk down to post here. I'll post here when the site is updated.

I would LOVE to go to Antwerp, but unfortunately monetary situations forbid it right now. Someday I hope to go... In the meantime, enjoy Marjin's work for me! :D

Some pics

Here's a few pics I was able to take. Dave Younquist's WW1 dio was very impressive and a well deserved BoS and PC. The Michigan Award could not have been given to a nicer person. Dave is definitely a "man behind the scenes" kinda guy. I don't think he left the exhibit area the entire day! Making sure everything was running smooth and the exhibitors were having a good time.

There's good news about next years show being moved to a Saturday and possibly Sunday in March. It would be great to see more exhibitors from abroad, especially from you guys and gals in the midwest.

Couple more

Most of the pics I took turned out fuzzy. Next year we'll have to set up a photo booth so we can control the lighting and setting.

I think moving to March is a great idea. I've always wanted to attend but traveling that direction from this direction in winter made it problematic. I'm looking forward to next year.

Glad to hear it, Mike! We'll be looking forward to seeing you and your work in the flesh.

The Club website has been updated to add the show pictures now, including more pics of Dave's BOS/PC.

www.MichiganHistoricalMiniaturesClub.com or www.MHMCpaintordie.com (same site, just different name)

I might add that I did paint more than just the club figure. I just forgot to take any pictures of my own display, of course.  So mini painters, take heart. There were a couple GW 40K, some Mithril Lord of the Rings figs, and a couple original sculpts there.

You're right about the photo booth Jason. Maybe next year we can borrow Doug's set up.

Hey Mike, come on over and bring some figs. We'd be glad to have you. :) We'll be able to plan more show-centered hospitality-minded club activities now with the show on Saturday too.
