Hey Anders,

A nice looking kit indeed.

1745 was the last of the Jacobite Rebellions, and the figure as presented would be in the later stages of it. (I beleve Culloden was fought the previous year.) I'm not sure how much of the arrogant pose would have been left in '46 though; from the beginning of the year on, the Rebellion was becoming very much on the losing end of things. By late 46 or 47, Parliament had passed laws banning the wear of tartans, and trying to eliminate the clan system in any way possible.

On the other hand, dating the figure to the summer of '45, would make the pose and posture spot on. This would have been during the initial stages of the Rebellion, perhaps when the Prince's standard was first raised.

A word of advice if you decide to get him.... and he is a very tempting figure. Don't, do not, noooooo, use modern Scottish tartans as a reference. About 95% of the modern patterns did not exist prior to the mid-1800s or so. Now the ones listed as 'Ancient' may be a different matter as these could (maybe?) have existed much earlier. The same also most likely applies to what are known as 'District' patterns. or 'District Tartans.' I'd think these would have a much longer history as well.

If you have access to a decent library, see if you can hunt up color illustrations for that era. At this time, Clan identification was not done with the pattern of the tartan, but what was worn on the bonnet. Also, the Osprey book on the Jacobite Rebellions isn't bad for color references and ideas.
