Hello does anyone know if the old Mike French Range of 120mm figures are available through any outlet...this excellent sculpter seemed to disappear from the scene years back and his Zulu range of figures never seen again, apart from on e bay at really high prices???I would really like to get hold of the Gladiator that he produced but it never seems to come up!!!!!!

Kevin I may be wrong but a lot of figures found their way to "The Lost Battalion" when the companies closed down,
Tried to look on their site but its being refurbished. Worth a try when its back up and running.
Good luck on your search.

Don

Hello Don ...Thanks for that, I did try them and they do seem to stock a lot of the old Roll Call figures but no Mike French 120mm which is a real shame as they were very high quality, much like Maurice Corrys Work, they just seem to have dropped off the edge of the world which is unusual,I wish I'd stocked up when I had the chance....He did a magnificent Rorkes Drift trio comprised of Chard, Bromhead And Ardendorff.....

Hi Kevin, I have the same problem to find some figs of the Zulu range of Mike. I was in contact with Mike French in the early eighties for some time, but I had failed to order these figures then. :(
Nobody can tell me about the whereabouts of Mike, think he´s not longer among us:(.
Have you had a look on Peter Evers Zinnfiguren site? He has a few of Mikes figures in stock, maybe something for you?

I can't find it but I thought there was a fairly recent posting on here suggesting that Mike had got himself a full time job a while back but had retained the master figures/moulds.

Hello...Yes somebody has put me in touch with this site and they have the Gladiator in stock so good news....Hope Mike did get a new job and not promoted to glory as they say..............would love to know he's still with us....Cheers

Hi
I can reassure everybody that Mike is still with us. I have known him for many years (ever since he made his first figure [ from Das clay ] and I was able to introduce him to Milliput. Mike has worked for some years now as a porter in our local Hospital where he is extremely popular and highly respected (I know because I am a frequent visitor to the Hospital). He has told me that, to support his family, he had to go into employment as the income from model-making was insufficient, and he is very happy and satisfied with the work he does now. Anyway, he is very fit and well (he cycles to and from work) and does not appear to feel the need to return to the world of model making.
Regards
Charles.

Good news Charles that he is alive and well and enjoying life. Is there any way of finding out what has happened to the masters/moulds. He may not feel the need to return to model making, but there are many of us around who would love to see his 90mm and 120mm figures available again. If he is reluctant to produce them himself, I'm sure there are one or two manufacturers who might be willing to buy the masters/moulds.

Kind regards,

Mike

Thats Good news...Always remember Mike at the Euromilitaire in the 90's dressed in a period uniform of one sort or another ....a real character to talk to, a friendly bloke and a massive talent who's figures are sorely missed from the scene especially by me, His Zulu range was fantastic and always command high prices on e bay it's a real shame they are still not readily available......Still, glad he's still with us enjoying life............

Thank you for these good news Charles! I´m happy, that Mike is still alive, satisfied and happy with his life. I wish him all the best and maybe... it grabs him once again ?;)

I also love this range and have a few in my collection. There are 2 Tiny Troopers 120mm Zulu War figures listed on Ebay (US) right now. (I have a search set up for this line on the site because I have been trying to get his Colonel Douglas kit for like 15 years now) If you search "Tiny Troopers" in the Toys & Hobbies catagory it brings up the Lord Chelmsford kit and the 17th Lancers kit, both are very nice and the price is not bad!

Hope this helps.

Hi All
Many thanks for your comments - I will pass all your good wishes on to Mike. I am sure he will be highly amused by the knowledge that some people wondered if he had died!!!

Charles

Hi All
Today I have spoken with Mike and he thanks everyone for their kind words and interest.

Mike has sold all his molds and rights some years ago, and has lost touch with the purchaser. It would seem that the buyer wanted them for his own use as he has never issued any commercially.

I had not spoken to Mike for some time and I was surprised to learn that he recently took retirement He tells me that he is enjoying his freedom and he asked me to pass on his good wishes.

Regards
Charles

Hi Charles,
these are good and bad news. I wish Mike all the best for his retirement, hope he will enjoy it for a long time!!:)
But, who`s that "mean" guy, who don´t share this treasure with us!?!;)

At last, thank you for your efforts to bring light into the darkness!

Regards Thomas

hi i bought the full range of the zulu wars from mike was reading through posts one day and a chap from australia wanted CS bourne and SGT Windridge to finish his set up sayin hed tried everywhere to get them thought ive had them a while why not so i posted them to australia for him never even emailed me back with a thanks bit annoyed with him ?

We have been chasing this range for some time without any luck. We have contacted a number of individuals suggested to us as possible owners but all were incorrect. So we continue to look. However, the current person suggested to us is a person who, if it is true, is hardly ever going to release the range for future use and is a rich and avid collector! But we will continue trying and will let you know if we have any luck!
Regards,
Jackie
