Latest pics on the Minamoto bust.

I've been working away steadily over the past week, mainly on the fiddly multi-coloured knots on the shoulder armour.

The helmet has also has more work done on it.

I've also repainted the breast plate armour to the flower motif.

I still haven't tackled the patterns on the silk kimono. That's next.

Hope you like.

Great work on the breast plate silk Tony, beautifully painted pattern. Really does tie the whole work together.
Still I thought the original pattern was a cracker, should have kept that one.........H0ly Sh!te!! what was that horrific noise coming from the west!!
Only kidding mate, this is some beautiful work Tony, looking forward to seeing the final piece!!

Hi Nick, thanks again for your comments and encouragement. It's painstaking nwork at the moment and I haven't even started painting the highlights and shades on all the coloured knots etc. Patience is the key.

Hi Ken, thanks mate. This bust is certainly a more technical painting exercise than I'm used to and I'm slowly chipping away at it.

Hi Pedro, thankyou. Yes, it is gradually improving but there's still so much to do.

Mark S - you bastard. It's all your fault and I hate you!!! Only kidding mate. As I said before, there's no point in asking for the opinions of experts and then ignoring their advice, so thanks for preventing me from making an unforgiveable historical error. Personally, I really liked the Minamot clan emblem in the armour, but if it has to be flowers then flowers it is!

Hi Jamie, my skills are definitely being tested , as is my patience and the steadiness of my hands. The base is a wooden plinth I bought from Ron Tamburrini, which is excellent. It's covered in yellow masking tape at present to avoid any stains or paint spots getting on it.

Hi Derek, thanks again for your comments mate. I'm glad you think the textiles look OK. It's always hard to judge by looking at photos, but I think it looks OK to the naked eye. The face still has a few touch ups required but its more or less done now.

More progress pics to come in a few days.

Bit late catching up with this tony,it's looking wonderful,I love the clothing designs and the way you carried them off with paint,it's all looking really great, another top bust from you :)

Hi Tony ,

Catching up on this ...lovely work on the patterns and the silks , helmet looks great as does the armour .....looking really a cracking piece .

Rest those eyes now .....for a while and then update us all !!!

Thanks for sharing

Nap

Hi Ben,

thanks for your comments mate. Yes, I've used oil washes over the acrylics on the face. It's still not looking right, so I'll do a bit more work with the acrylics to pick out the details before I do anymore oil washes.

Hi Brian, thanks mate. I need to give this bust a break from me now. I'll finish him off later, once I've had a chance to get some distance from it and see how its really looking.

Hi Alex, thank you. The photos of your version of this bust have been posted up on the walls of my hobby room for weeks serving as a painting guide and as inspiration. I have to say I'm still in awe of the detailed patterns you painted on your bust. I can understand how you see floral patterns in your skeep after painting it. I had the same experience.

Thanks Mark, I appreciate your advice and encouragement on this bust. Having got to this point in painting the bust, I hope you don't think I'm going to abandon the project. This is simply a hiatus in order to restoke the furnance with renewed vigour and energy.

Hi Nap, thanks for your comments mate, I will update you all once I restart work on this bust.

I've started painting another bust already, but it's a relatively simple one compared to Minamoto, and shouldn't take more than a few weeks.
