Guys, Thnaks for the kind words. I'm happy with it so far, I need to play with his expression a bit more. The old veteran is going to be fun, I've been building a file of elderly faces to help me out.~Gary

I'm still working on the younger guys face. I have to do the eyes and refine the ears and will then turn may attention to the veteran. I have started roughing in the vet's body and will most likely do a bit of carving to get his posture right.~Gary

Jason & Joe, Thanks, It will most likely be pure sculpey though I have not ruled out using putty for at least the headgear. The vet's armature is slowly taking shape. It's a bit grotesque at this point but I'll go in and clean it up to get the proportions right once it's roughed in and baked.~Gary

Here is a side view. I think I need to move the shoulder area and the chest back some, he seems to be standing far too straight. Suggestions?~Gary

Good idea,Gary;with the shoulders and chest back a little,it would definitely look more natural. My 2 cents worth.Cheers !
Kenneth ;)

Gary, I really like the stance of the old guy, it looks like the torso could be a bit far forward of the hips, the young soldier looks as if he's leaning too far forward, though it may just be the picture showing it that way.

Guys, Thanks for the observations, i'm working on all of those things as they do need a little bit more to get them right.~Gary

Here is the veteran's armature with some of the clothing sketched in with sculpey so I can see what alterations need to be made to the armature. The armature did not go exactly as I had planned as I do not feel it reflects his old age enough. I think I'll be able to do this with the addition of his clothing adding a bit of a "pot" belly and slopped shoulders. The part I'm looking most forward to is the head which is next. The younger figure is going to be baked shortly and after smoothing the face/head I'll add the hair and begin his shirt.~Gary

Leigh, Yeah I already removed it and added what will soon be the neck and head. I only "sketched" it out in the sculpey to see how the armature would look with what would be the clothing on top of it. I started doing the shirt on the young guy and I'm already changing it as the folds do not look quite right. More pics later.~Gary

A little progress today on the young guy's shirt. I hope to have some pics of the old vet's head by mid week in addition to more work done on the 54's.~Gary

I have the shirt folds almost where I want them. The pockets and the right side of the collar needs to be done yet. I'll finish it off with puutting all the seams in the proper place.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the kind words. The old man will be the hardest part. My aim is for him to be realistic not look like a cartoon.~Gary
