Hi Guys .. anybody know what happened to Dennis Johnson,Mitrecap Miniatures. I see some figures from the Mitrecap Miniatures range selling on Ebay but are they generally available ....

Hi Pete,
I was at his house in Sheffield a couple of times, although the last time was about 6 years ago.I know it was Manorfield House in Sheffield.Dont know if that helps you or not mate. I still love the Mitrecap Miniatures range especially the 70-75mm peices.Still have some of em left.
Hope you find him and if so then give him my regards.
By the way anybody know what happened to Keith Durham who sculpted lots of the 70s and 75s ??.

Hi Peter,

I worked with Dennis at the University for years and the last I'd heard he'd retired and now lives in Spain with his wife Gail. He closed down both Mitrecap Miniatures and The Red Box toy soldier company some years ago now.

I think we met a few times when I went down to Euro Militaire with Dennis and Peter Loxley, in fact I think I once visited your house with Dennis.

Can you remember the great Joe Shaw, an amazing artist and a great character.

Cheers

John

Hi , Dennis & Gail live in Spain now , i don,t know if he is still selling figures but he took all his equipment & master figures with him , i think he said he would start again when he had finished with his building project , Keith Durham is still going & has written another Osprey book , & Joe Shaw , what can i say , such a wonderful character & nice man & is truly missed , Steve

Hi Steve,

Do you have the contact details for Dennis and Gail? I last saw him in 1999 when I left the University after working with him for 15yrs. I used to get on with them very well and was over at Manorfield on many occasions. I can remember the figure painting course that they ran, with Joe Shaw as guest master painter, as though it was yesterday.

Best

John

Hi John

How are you ?
Glad to read the previous notes regarding Dennis,s whereabouts , I had heard all sorts of stories so I certainly hope the one about Dennis and Gail living in Spain is true ..

I still get one or two of the old 54mm Mitrecap range of figures off Ebay and still enjoy painting them.I hope it is also true he took all the molds and master with him to Spain, there maybe a chance yet for him to re-issue some of his old favourite 54mm figures .. and even some of the 70mm figures he did ..

Dennis if you are reading this ... just cast a few more figures!

If only one of us knows his exact location, but kowing Dennis and Gail they will want to enjoy there retirement, and who can blame them !! ...

I have managed over the years .. off Ebay again, to get some of the 150mm Pete Barnacle figures that Dennis produced as well, that British Penninsula war standard bearer Pete did was a cracking figure ..

Its also good to notice that Steve Harrison still has an interest in figures, pity some of Steve's figures are not available now as well, as he did some nice stuff that will, even today will stand up against, and beat some of the new manufactures.

I have recently posted some of the figures I have been working on under the title "About time I loaded some images" on Planet figure ..

Steve .. take I look I am sure one of them is a figure you sculptured ...

John ..Have you uploaded any of your work??

Regards
Pete Cooper

Hi Peter,

It's almost a year since you posted your reply to my message and I can't believe that I never replied. Firstly in answer to your question I haven't uploaded any of my work as I haven't done any for years. Having an 8yr old son seems to take up most of my time and he's only into electronic games right now so not even an opportunity to get him interested. How are you and the family? Did you ever hear back from Dennis or get his contact details? What were the other theories about what happened to him? I did a search for him and Gail using google and came up with a reference to Muro Del Alcoy, Valenica, Spain but apart from that I never got any further. I know that Peter Loxley is still in Sheffield and is also retired. He was a damn good modeler, especially his 54mm figures which I think were second to none. Hope you have a great 2013. Best John

Hello All,

I too have an interest in Mitrecap miniatures; particularly the 54mm Great War releases. I've attached an old item from 1984 announcing his first releases in the subject. Does anyone recall these items ? I would very much like to acquire the GS Wagon if one is out there.

Hi Jack ..

good luck with locating the GS wagon.Mitrecap miniatures figures and vehicles are getting harder to find ..

Have you thought of looking at a bit smaller scale .. 1/76( 4MM)... WD Models are excellent First World War miniatures,I can highly recommend them and they have a GS wagon + other WW1 vehicles
and figures .. Well worth a look here is the URL ..

Pete .

Thank you, Peter. Your suggestion is certainly appreciated. Unfortunately, I have been building in 54mm for more than 40 years and it is much too late for me to abandon the " miniature scale of tradition". Of course I am heartened by the new Tommy's War releases, but find few Great War era vehicles out there. Things were going quite well for me in the early years; until John Piper sold Scale Link and all his future release plans were either ignored or simplified to render them toy-like.
Oh , for a good rendition of the 18 Pdr and limber !

Hi Pete, Did you ever contact Dennis. I was in touch with another old colleague from the University and he's not heard anything about Dennis either. Cheers John

Hi John .. How you doing ?

Nope never did locate him, last reports I heard he had moved lock, stock and barrel to Spain. Where-about's I do not know. Knowing Dennis he would have took all the molds for Mitrecap figures with
him as well, so they are probably gathering Spanish dust in a shed some where.

Pete ....

Hi Peter - I'm doing OK thanks and you? Although I was in hospital with 2 prolapsed discs earlier this year but I'm well on the road to recovery now. I guess we'll have to give up on finding Dennis. I haven't heard from Peter Loxley either and he was a damn fine modeller. Take care and all best. John

Hi
I would love to get some help, I'm after a irish gallowglass or scots gallowglass for a model birlin I'm making, I know that mitrecap models made some perfect models, do any of you gentlemen know where I can can get my hands on one , two or ever three such wonderful models.

Hi Angus ..

best place to find the figure you refer to, I am afraid is on Worldwide Ebay. They do not appear regularly so save your search on Ebay Worldwide and wait ....
