(I may get rid of all my CS kits - another 5 - but only if I can achieve good prices for them)

Hi do you have the Ceremonial Studios Gentleman in Khaki for sale?
Cheers

Oops didn't check the postings or the dates sorry

I don't believe it! I have completely missed this post unti now. I would have loved to have had the Ceremonial kits. My late father owned Cermonial Studios and I painted the show display models for all the fantasy range as a teenager. I've been trying to get hold of some of the original kits for ages. I still have the ones I painted 25 odd years ago but would love to have some original kits and as I'm estranged from my older brother (who still has the masters and Molds) there's not much chance of picking them up apart from ebay and sites like this.

Gutted. :depressed:

I still have the Mercenary figure (with the Axe) which was the only one I got around to painting and the Samurai which I've always liked. I made some rough casts of the other fantasy figures to use as a pile of 'corpses' in a diorama (I plan to recreate the original Chris Achilleos painting one day: http://dclough.org/hom/?p=35 ).

Incidentally I emailed Achilleos a while ago about something else and he knew nothing about the CS figures or any of the other companies who'd based kits on his paintings (Hofi, Barton etc). Probably just as well they're all defunct now ;-)

Making the pile of corpses is also want I want to do! Incidently the Conan (mercenary) figure with the princess around his leg is based on artwork by Earl Norem who did all the cover art for the Savage Sword Of Conan comic series. King Kull (the Warlord I think we called him) and The Greek were both based on Achilleos art with The Evil One and the Brigand based on Frazetta.
The Samurai was one of the figures that I suggested we had made, I actually drew a picture that we based him on for my art "O" Level at school. We commisioned Ron Cameron to sculpt him who was a traditional sculptor who mainly produced 1/2 scale bronze nudes and had never made anything for the figure market before (he also did a 110mm mounted Sioux Indian for us) and although I liked to anatomy and pose the detail was lacking particularly on the sword when you compared it to what Richard Almond could do (Richard was actually a silversmith by trade) I always meant to have a go at improving it but never got round to it.

Anyway it's still nice to see these figures still doing the rounds 30 odd years after thet were made.

Interesting to hear more about the background of some of the figures. Richard Almond was quite prolific when he was alive, wasn't he. I agree about the great detail on his figures but the legs always were a bit too muscular for my taste

I like the way Geoff Illsley painted the Samurai using an airbrush - which I think was the first time I ever heard of somebody using one and inspired me to have a go.
