Any decent hotels in the area ?
Nah I'm away on holiday otherwise I'd be there though.
Off to Folkstone with the wife Nige.Is it a week or a fortnight?

.........I've got a flat in Dunoon and haven't set foot in the town for 20 years I'm trying to keep the tone of the place up That's fighting Talk Nige
What a ****hole. The land that time forgot. No wonder you haven't gone there in 20 years Del - and you live just across the water 
It's one of the few places that might just be worse than Folkestone. Thankfully there's no figure shows there

When the Yanks left the life just seemed to get sucked out of the place.
So many peoples livelihood depended on them and Ardyne Point, when it closed that really was the nail in the coffin.
Now the advertising thing ......... It's a great starting point to explore Argyll and all points north west.
Ferry across the Clyde (saves a couple of hours drive) head straight out of Dunoon and 10 minutes later have a stop and walk around Youngers (Benmore) Botanic Gardens http://www.gardens-of-argyll.co.uk/view-details.php?id=486 (£6 to get in not many traders though)
Lunch at the Creggans Inn at Strachur on the east shore of Loch Fyne about another 20 minutes up the road. http://www.creggans-inn.co.uk/#_=_
From here you are spoiled for choice as you make your way up the west coast.

Been there done that this August mate. Never been in that part of the country before so we took a long weekend break which quickly turned into a short weekend. We fled the hotel at 06.00 on the Sunday morning.Funnily enough on the Saturday afternoon I was thinking to myself - I wish the wife would ask to go home ( I didn't want to spoil her weekend ) and she was thinking at the same time - I wish he wanted to go back up the road

... What have we all learned between this thread and the Euro one? .........Don't stay in the same hotel as Nige
Tis true Brian. When possible on holiday we opt for 5 star. Did the flea pits when younger Thing is in Folkestone there is only 3 star at damn near 5 star prices - that's what I call taking advantage of the captive audience. ( might do what we did last year and travel in from London but that restricts us to just the one day) BTW Our hotel in London was cheaper than the Cliffy this year 
Alternatively might not bother at all which would be a shame.
