Hi,

that's a completely new project for me- it has a title "Do you want to buy a really cheap radio?". Our neighbors Germans, they have a joke about us, Poles: "Do you want to visit Poland? Go there, your car is already there :)". In every tale there is some truth - I admit that here in Poland (especially in the big cities like Warsaw, which is our capital and where I live) there is a big problem with thievery - you cannot leave your radio in the car, because of big risk of being stolen (especially in the city downtown, you have always to carry your radio or radio-panel with you, no matter what's the radio's type). So my new figure portrays a thief with a stolen radio in his right hand (in the left he will be holding a pick bar). The thief will have quite typical wear for that kind of people: hooded skirt, sport trousers (guys here prefer adidas mark), sport shoes, baseball cap (again with adidas logo).

So there it goes:

Aha, scale is 1/16.
All comments as always are very welcome.

P.S. I'm thinking about sculpting my next figure - it will be a Polish private from September '39 in 1/16.
P.P.S. The thief is my second figure (I'm not including my plaster figures) so let me know if you can recognize any common mistakes in my sculpture – I’m only a beginner :).
P. P.P.S. There is more of my current works in the vbench section.
P.P.P.P.S. And the last one ;). Hope you will excuse my English.

Hi Piotr!
I like an idea very much!
Bardzo dobrze!
I recognised adidas trousers at once. But don't make a wrinkles on the thieve's buttocks. It's looks wrong.
The second question - a hairstyle. I'm not shure but it seems to me a litle bit unfashionable for a modern teenager? What do you think about adding a piercing as well?

Go ahead with this project! Good luck! I really like it!

Hi Vlad,
First of all - תודה מאוד - for your kind words in Polish :).

I will try to improve the wrinkles on the back - thanks for the tip.

Haircut - Yes, you're right, most of the young guys have as we say in Polish - a "match-thickness" hairstyle (a recruit/soldier style haircut). But on the other hand there are also lots of guys with longer hairs (oldschool;) - they use some kind of gel to make their hairs shiny.
Hmm, a pierced ear – good idea.

He will have also nice golden necklace and ring (quite popular among those people - that's also a marker for the social status ;). I'm also thinking about adding a hooligan's shawl (also is quite fashionable for those kind of people to have shawl to support their local sport team, mostly soccer teams). And on the t-shirt he will have written “HWDP” which stands for… heh, I don’t want to translate that ;) – but it’s something what makes our Police very angry.

Regards,

Piotr

Piotr, I love the novice idea.Very original and different from what we're used to see. Regarding the sculpting I think you're on the right track.Maybe you want to check the bulk of the trousers? but otherwise it's ok

Hi Piotr,

We have the same type of youth in Scotland they get called neds here. They wear the same type of clothing you are depicting, it must be an international uniform. No doubt other countries will have them too. I wonder when Osprey will do a 'Men at Arms' series Neds of Northern Europe 2000-2010 . Keep up the good work

Brian

Great Idea! Remember that the sweatpants are made of pretty thin material, which makes the folds smaller and thinner.

These guys can also be found in Sweden, always black addias sweat pants and hooded shirts and some skanky tennis shoes. When I was younger we used to call them 'kickers' but I really dont know what they are called anymore.

Bryan,

I love your book idea, maybe you should email Osprey !

Piotr, most excellent idea "

We have the same kinds of street uniform, yo.

Brian,

Hi everyone,

Nice to hear that you also have that type of guys in your countries :). We call them here “dresiarze” – it comes from 'dres' which means in Polish “sweat suit” - so it could be transalated as "sweaters".

Here you are current pictures of my figure – it isn’t finished yet. As you can see is pre-painted (that’s why so strange colors are applied) – I wanted to see what should be sanded (it is almost impossible to see a very small folds on the white). The radio and hands need some improvements and details. The pipe in his hand will become a wheel key.

Feel to comment it freely
Regards,

Piotr

I like the subject matter a lot! The sweatshirt looks great. The only comment I have is that maybe front of the cap (which is on the back of his head) is not the right shape for a baseball cap, it should be fuller, like here:

It also looks like the visor might be too long.

I'm looking at the first pictures though, so perhaps it's changed slightly in the newer ones. And, of course, maybe it's not supposed to specifically be a baseball cap!
