I kept the torso pretty much intact but replaced the head and arms and built the trench back-drop. The insignia was added to be a light machinegunner of the 1st Royal Fusiliers, part of the 24th Division (helmet insignia), first brigade of the second senior batallion (red cross), Company D (yellow diamond). He also has a wound stripe on the bottom of the sleeve. The figure was painted with enamels and oils (sometimes a mixture of both).

Hi Dave

very nice work, I like this, there realy seems to be an increase in the appeal of WW1 figures

Dave

Dave, Nice job. There are at least a few folks that are really into WW1, so this will be a treat for them to see. Though WW1 does not offer much in the way of colorful uniforms, I enjoy all the different types of insignia, especially those used by British units.~Gary

Nice looking figure. WW1 certainly seems to be coming back into vogue a bit.

Gary - You'd be surprised the amount of colour during the war. French units marched to war in virtually the same uniforms as they did 50 years earlier in the Franco-Prussian War. Zouave units even marched in with their Fez and all. British units were the most drab by far but most of the other armies were still fairly colourful.

That slimy, oozing muck gives me the chills. It would've been easy to ovedo in that scale. Your contrast of dull dustiness to the liquid-laden mud barely held back by the boards has created an authentically claustrophobic setting for the figure.

Thanks all:

I was able to get to a computer this evening (I'm out of town) and I much appreciate your comments.

Dan and Gary; Although I have a few figures from other eras, many of my recent figures have either an imperial German or WW1 theme. I have a pretty extensive uniform reference library (especially imperial german) and if anyone has any particular questions about uniforms and/or insignia for this time period, I would be happy to help.

Regards

Dave

Hello DAVE,..
A great piece of work my friend, the back ground setting frames him well... WW1 is perhaps my most subject and have made several 120s from the period.. What pleases me is how youve kept your colours fresh, it make him appear as if he is comming up into the front line, all clean shaven but with mud up his boots....

Phil.......
