ok i have read a few tutorial on the subject of casting and mold making, am pritty show i going to try doing it .. ( ok i need too sooner or later)
what i need help on is what metirial option i can use and where to get it.

and i know oil base caly is use in the mold making process, but how do you clean it off your origenal sculpt ?

Hi Revliss,

Firstly we need to establish what your casting? and which market these products will be sold. Secondly you need RTV rubber, Polyeurathane resin, or polyester resin. Polyester Resin is cheaper but less stable. You only need clay if your making skin moulds. It's not nessersary for small quantities. You can use filler powders for different finishes and looks, it's very difficult to advise because there are so many variations that can be implimented. But the most important thing is a vacuum pump and chamber!!! without this mould making and casting is a hit and miss process. I'm sorry I can't be more specific but mould making and casting is not really learnt from books it's skills that are built with experience over many years. It's not an easy skill to aquire, but learning on the job is always the way to learn.

If I can help further just ask. Good luck.

Carl

My advice is to continue your research. Your tutorials and references should answer the questions you have raised.

hi Revliss casting resin parts can greatly help your modeling efforts...if you are looking to go into business it can be a very time consuming effort that will suck away any chances at modeling, painting or having a life that you may presently have. If your looking at casting a few pieces you should be able to get the materials you need from Alumilite corporation.

If you need further info on mold making & casting there is a good web-site that you can go to www.smooth-on.com
They have some of the best rubber's, I have bin using them for many years. They also have technical service if you ever need any help on all the different rubber's and casting materials.
Hope this helps you out.

Cheers,

Andy
