Hello guys,

Here's my attempt on VL's Mongol; a horrible kit; meaning the face, fit and (original) subject  Got it as a birthday present I think 15 years ago... or 20...
After reading an article by Adrian Hopwood (2009!), I gave this one an other thought! With a little magic sculp and some plastic card I finally had a go with it (well on and off...)
Here's the final result (my first historical!), painted entirely with acrylics.
Hope you like it.

Following the example of a real mongolian pants; Arrow was made from brass rod an real feather!

Goat skin bow case; The sword scabbard in 'Japanese lacquer'...

Hope it says 'Mogol' in mongolian laguage.... :nailbiting:

Thanks to A.Hopwood
and thanks for looking

A very nice end result Erik. It's Verlindens Hun and not one you saw too often even when it was released.
I think the severed heads being held aloft on the original put people off.
Your version gives it a new lease of life, particularly like the way you've handled the leathers.
Cheers

Well painted, finished and presented. As above, leather really stands out. Nice one, well worth the effort you have put into it.

Very nice job Erik, I particularly like the leather jacket. The spear looks incredibly long in a couple of the photos, but that might be a trick of the camera.

It was one of the first figures I painted after getting back into the hobby in the late '90s - severed head and all - and I still have it in the cabinet, having revisited it and improved it about 4 years back. But you're right Del, it's never been one that you see very often. A model very much "of its time", although I don't recall experiencing any fit issues with it, except for the join between his hand and the severed head . Would I paint it now if I didn't already have it? Probably not.

As you say very much of it's time. Eriks work on it makes me think if I could find one at sensible money (cheap :)) I'd have a shot at 'pimping' it out a bit.
Thinking along the lines of the conversion work of Stan Cheffey and Julian Hullis.
Cheers

I remember being impressed by Adrian Hopwood's patchwork coat painting.
Your presentation is more than equally impressive.
Very well done.

Cheers,
Andrew

I presume that Historex's one at £29.60 won't be considered as 'sensible money'.

Not for this Andrew, by the time postage got added I'd much rather go for one of the many 75mm pieces I've got my eye on.
Really just fancy the exercise so would be quite happy with one with some of the accoutrements missing.

Thanks guys for the nice compliments :happy::happy:

@kenshin; no need to steel it  ; just paint it black, put some gold paint (I did it with a piece of a sponge) on it, then glaze it with clear (transparent) orange and there you have it! :D
@Steve; the spear IS long! I took the idea from several photos/paintings, were these spears are really big, bigger than mine here... They used it for enemy cavalrymen to pull down fron their hores:sneaky:
Concerning the fit, it must have been a mondaymorning product :D
@Derek; thried e-bay? Althougt a 75mm with a 'clear' coat would be more of an challenge :sneaky:

Cheers
Erik

Love it - I did wonder what the powder was on the end of the spear though till I saw snow on the groundwork. Downloaed the piccies coz I think the leather coat is really well done.
