Great question...
I really enjoy painting a variety of periods and subjects (fantasy too), so for me, when looking at a bust/figure I'd like to paint I think it comes down to:
Having said this though, there are definitely certain kinds of subjects I will not paint (ever) regardless of how accurate, detailed, or well casted sculpted the figure/bust may be.
I really enjoy painting a variety of periods and subjects (fantasy too), so for me, when looking at a bust/figure I'd like to paint I think it comes down to:
- At first glance- does the piece pull me in or engage me on a emotional level or tell an interesting story?
- Is there something in my personal life experience that that the subject connects to?
- Are there particular aspects that would force me to leave my comfort zone or work with techniques that I'm weak in - so I can practice and grow as a painter?
- And a little more vaguely, and at the end of the day, "is this thing badass???"
