Hello, does anybody have experience with the mould construction with moulding sand?
How one can full plastic engages one forms with that?

thank you.

Hi Thorsten, I don't think sand casting is used for miniature work - the level of detail possible isn't high enough as far as I know.

I have a small amount of experience with sand casting, and I can't imagine it would be a useful technique for miniature work. First, as Einion said, the sand grains wouldn't allow the level of detail on the average 90mm-120mm figure, and the sand would impart an overall grainy texture to the figure that would have to be polished out in most cases. Second, significant draft is needed in the master so the mould isn't damaged when the master is removed, and undercuts would be impossible. Third, the master itself would be different from the normal figure sculpture due to the way sand moulds are made. Fourth, the mould is destroyed with each casting, although the sand is reusable. This would be OK for a one-off, but a lot of work for large runs.
