The recent threads on horses and Guy's Workbench have got me interested in trying a mounted figure.

I'd like to take advantage of recommendations of pF members for suggestions.

I don't have any specific period or scale in mind. But, I don't want to spend hours filling gaps and sanding.

I would consider my skill level at intermediate

I love the Post Militare pieces...

Thanks for your help!

Keith

Hey Keith,

If you love the Poste Militaire figures then I would go with one of them. They have some filling but it is nominal to the least. Their quality still sets the mark and you can't go wrong with them. But that is just my opinion!

Keith, I agree with Guy. Not trmendous amount of work tobe done on them, but keep in mind, you will have to find an alternate way of supporting some of them (like the Orleans ones). Why not go for broke and do one of the 90mm Mounted Samurai. Another option is the Andrea mounted Napoleon. I have the kits, but haven't really looked at it enough to know how well it will fit together.

But in the end, you might have to get "psyched" on something yourself otherwise, if you're like me, you'll never finish it!

I would recommend Metal Models' 54mm moutned hussar officer - horse fits a treat and is a pleasure to paint. I don't ususally like Bruno Leibovitz's anatomy in his standing figures, but the mounted hussar is superb. Just get ready for lots of lacework.

Keith,
when you narrow it down to say 5 pieces. Let us know here and with all the membership we have we should be able to find someone who has done it or has the kit to do a kit review to let you see the actual kit.

Thanks very much for the ideas, gents.

Guy- That's a good idea. I'll do that.

Keep 'em coming, folks

Keith

Hi Keith
I am Just starting a mounted kit (adding to an already crowded workspace)
It is the 54mm mounted Praetorian from "Soldiers" a beautifully sculpted piece,
from the hands of Adrianno Larruccia. The dry fits snap together, hardly
any filler required.

If your not into Romans, then as Colin suggested "Metal Modeles"
Napoleonics don't come any better in 54mm.

Hope this is of some help

I did a post similar to this, I evetually bought the curiasser from Andrea, I saw it a Euro last year and stunning it is.

Thx again for the ideas.

As I said, I like the Poste Militaire stuff. And, I did check out the Metal Model's

I also like th Shenandoah Mini's Federal Cavalry Guidon Bearer. Any one know this one? I was somewhat put off by the quality of the figs I saw on their web site. They looked kind "old verlinden-ish" if you know what I mean.

I promised myself that I won't buy anything until I finish one of my in process figs!

Keith

I do the same thing and then I buy anyway because I then get bored with the "in process" stuff and set it aside anyway. I'm trying to force myself to paint what I want versus forcing myself to finish. When I force myself I start not enjoying it and get mediocre results. Better for me to put it aside and come back to it later when I'm re-inspired.
