Hi Simon

Great descriptions on the metallics , interesting approach using Matt varnish , the results show up well and are looking good , will you add a tiny bit of gloss varnish on the highest highs ?

Your definitely not killing this .....nailing it more like

Looking forward to seeing the sword

Thanks for updates

Happy benchtime

Many thanks Kev much appreciated, re the gloss, no I will keep everything as matt as possible, high highlights and shine I try to portray with colour, a hangover from flat painting still.

The sword actually come in three pieces, I should have done it early on, must resist rushing it.

Cheers Simon

Quick update on the helmet, I tidied up the shades and highlights a little before a further coat of varnish. The high highlights are done with silver to replicate the shine and reflection since everything will be or at least should be completely flat matt.

The turban on the helmet is made of an imitation Jaguar fur. The base for this is SC75 Sahara Yellow, then with a mix of the base, some Vallejo Smoke and a fair dab of SC75 Kalahari Orange I make an individual dab on the turban. The distinctive Jaguar rosette is an orange yellow colour distinctly darker than the base colour of the fur, this has a cap and a base of black. Each rosette is individual some larger some smaller and some with the cap and base joined up. For this I just used SC75 Black.

I left this all to dry for a short while, then with a very dilute wash of Vallejo Smoke I shaded over many applications the rear end and the horizontal centre of thd front. This is done right over the base and rosettes and is kept fairly subtle. Again a short break to dry and I added high lights, simply the base colour plus White, horizontally across the front top and bottom or the turban. This was carefully applied between the rosettes, I guess it would have been easier to do the shading and highlights first.

Just the horse tail and shaving brush shaped thingy on the top of the comb to do, and probably a fair bit of tidying up.

Thank you very much I try to do my best each time, maybe it doesn't always work but this one is going OK.

Cheers Simon

Many thanks Kev, he's in the final stages now, just got to paint the sword and attach it as he is now on his final base. I'll be sure to be taking it to various shows where we have a table, might even break the habit of a couple of decades and enter him in the Anuals in Reading.

Cheers Simon

Well that was a good mornings work, sword and slings painted and attached without too much damage, just an errant bit of superglue that needed painting over.

So he's done, I'll add pics to the completed board.

Many thanks Kev, 54mm is I think my preferred scale, I only did the 1/35th because the raw ingredients were so widely available and I was used to that scale from armour modelling. We shall see how I get on building 54mm/1/32nd in my next project.

Cheers Simon

Very nice, Simon, I can never get how people can paint that neath at that small scale.
I did wonder at the start if he lost part of his epaulets, they really had some odd ideas about uniforms before the 20th century.

Thank you for that Henk, I used to paint 28mm gaming pieces, hundreds of the damn things, but that's probably a bit too small these days. Regarding the eppulets yes they are odd, but it's little details and quirks like this that I like.

I have painted the odd Warhammer piece, I'm not into the table top gaming (my son is), but I like to paint them sometimes. I seems though that I'm slowly painting the beginning of a Chaos Undivided army..

Never been a gamer, just paint one off fantasy pieces, Warhammer, Reaper, Dark Sword, Hasslefree the list is endless but they are addictive as can be seen in my cabinet!
