This is purely a post for my own interest! and a follow on from my previous post as regards Mounted Cavalry! ... If both scales of, 90mm and 120mm. Were available with any given subject. Which scale would be the preferred option ??

Just wondering ??.. as if the choice was one or the other! ..........

Regards,

Mark.

6mm for me ... joking...
If it's tin, I would opt for 90mm; weight less and less expensive
But I would certainly choose : a subject I like and for the best rendering in the details

Its always subject and sculpt/pose over scale for me, but if there was the exact same piece in both scales, 90mm would be preferable
Ben

Cheers Ben! .. that is what I did not make clear! ... that the given piece was a mirror image of the other, ..only the scale would be different.(y)

Hi all,
Well there does seem a general pattern of the sculpt and quality is the priority.
I was in discussion yesterday ref this very subject :)
I am afraid all metal mounted is a complete no go, well certainly from here.
The costs of metal are just huge not including shipping, good ole Royal Mail.
It would make it financially unviable and there is also the quality issue which will be far better in resin.
75mm is being done although sales do seem to have dropped on this particular scale, after speaking to other manufacturers.
Best wishes and I hope to add at least 1 mounted in 2014, although dare I say in will most likely be 120mm, but it will not be french :)

I'm sure coming from you it will be great quality Graham-look forward to the release 120mm or 90mm is fine by me.

I've heard the 75mm argument:rolleyes: but Pegaso, Romeo, Atelier Maket and others (How big a list do you want?) seem to be doing OK in this scale...............I'm not convinced that 75mm is in its death throes;)

Hi Keith,
Thank you for the kind words.
Yes I understand what you are saying ref 75mm, I personally like them an intend on doing some myself, I think it is a great scale. If the initial costs of sculpting can be cut down, ie produced internally they would tend to be ok and extremely viable but from past experience as a small company I have found it can be more effective to go a little further and go 120mm or even busts if deciding to commission .
Of course it is down to subject and I think part of it is also to produce an extensive line which can be identified rather than one offs, I certainly won't be giving up on them though.
All the best

In 90mm metal the legs usually warp with time, so at least three, if not all four of the horse's legs need to be on the base. As a rule I prefer 120mm (old eyes, even with magnification), but ultimately it is the quality of the figure that counts.

This is my 150mm conversion of the Airfix Show-jumper (Princess Anne) into a Light Horseman:

Interesting thoughts! ... it would seem equal preferences, (with 90mm having a slight edge), with the two scales, with a awkward 75mm thrown in for good measure., (see Housecarl) !:D I agree the costing of an all, 'White Metal', would be a very expensive production, and I also agree that such figures are prone to collapse. Saying that, I have no issues 'Resin' either!,.. as Both, Alan Ball, and Richard Bailey are producing 90mm resin, with white metal parts, in 90mm for Bonapartes! and have an extensive range! .both mounted and on foot! ... But the mounted figures are dominated by the French cavalry, bar one, a, RHA, figure!

Pretty much all of the mounted pieces, that I have are in white metal, Pegaso, Andrea, Poste-Militaire, ... However, I am expecting a Resin figure through today! so I am keen on looking at the difference if any!.. mounted-french-hussar-officer-and-drummer-boy-203-p.jpg .. yes it's, another Frenchman! bar the weight, I am expecting very little difference in detail.

Mark
