Ron, it's definitely on my 'to-do' list when next my lovely, patient wife and I venture forth to parts foreign. I believe that Salon-de- Provence is a great area for a holiday ; we've been to the Languedoc, and we want to explore further East (or,at least, I do !) I've got loads of postcards of the Musee de l'Emperi collection, so now it's time to get there.

I have been all over Italy from top to bottom ; but always find France a bit daunting , only been there on three occasions , Paris , limoges and Corsica , but Corsica is not really France and you can get by with a spattering of Italian and English

This Museum and the area looks super and a must do .

A few years back whilst staying in Spain for the winter Mrs B and I had a long weekend type break in Seville and stumbled across the Military Museum in the Plazza Espana. Had a great afternoon even Mrs B was amazed at the WW1 Horses Gas Mask on show, I think she even enjoyed it.

That same year a month or so later we went on a 4 day Cruise from Malaga one of the stops was Lisbon, asked by Mrs B where I wanted to go in Lisbon, discretion being the better part of valor I said ONLY if we pass it I would like to have a Look in the National Army Museum this was agreed only if we got through all the other sites.

On waking up in the morning having arrived at Lisbon during the night we looked out of our Port Hole. Shock Horror Just outside the dock where we had birthed on the opposite side of the road was the Army Museum.RESULT. Guess where I spent the day.

Both Museums are worth a visit.

If you ask me ! that sounded like a well orchestrated cunning plan :D

I have been there many times and will keep going once every two-three years, as it's a four-hour drive from home in Barcelona. It is an absolute must for anyone interested in the Napoleonic period. The collection there is THE most impressive one anywhere in the world. It not only covers Napoleonic era, but extends up to WWI. I've just posted a link to some of the pics I took there in the Uniform Reference section:
Musee de l'Emperi pics

Salon itself is not worth a visit, but Aix-en-Provence, a charming town some 30 Kms away, would make a nice base.

For those who can not travel to Salon, there's an excellent French-text book with lots of beautiful pics of many of the Napoleonic devices from the museum collection:
Les Trésors de l'Emperi, l'armée de Napoleon
by Vincent Bourgeot
ISBN: 978-2-9524583-4-4

It's OOP, but it's not hard to get a copy.

Just home Luis , and catching up .
Thanks for the link and info , this place looks fantastic and a must visit . only need to con the wife into a holiday in France now . :D

That book is pricey , it better be good :)

it's a Museum that must be visited by any Napoleonic fan.
I visited it many time and every time I see something different and new, The Brunon Collection is inside an old and beautiful caste that gives other appeal for the visit.

Salon de Provence is also the town of Nostradamus and to ad an appeal Metal Modeles isn't so far
