Musician of the Regt. Royal Deux-Ponts, 1781

This a first posting, by me, of a WIP. I have been working with Historex for 40 years. My wife and I were members of the US based reenactment group, Regt. Royal Deux-Ponts, the original of which was instrumental in bringing about the British surrender at Yorktown. I portrayed a Grenadier and my wife a musician (fifre and hunting horn in the Chasseur Co.). From research, we know that there was one French Horn player in the Regimental Band and we even know his name. This vignette is a kit bash of Historex with liberal use of lead foil on the habit tails to work for seated. My wife has a natural horn (type portrayed) so I thought I would put her (as a male) in a vignette. The sheet music is actually a very small printing of the Royal Deux-Ponts March. I am starting a series on the RDP that will include: Fifre et Tambour, Grenadier. Officer (I was an RDP Officer, commanding the 2eme Battalion of the French Line at the 225th Yorktown), and members of the RDP digging the parallels at Yorktown (in fatigue dress). I am retired now and painting keeps me off the streets at night…..Vive le Roi!

Great subject and excellent start. You should also post this on the Facebook ‘Small Build Historex Page.’ That is where you will find fellow Historex builders who gladly share their advice. I love the uniform of the RDP as well. Ivo Predates has done an excellent standard bearer of this regiment.

Added a music stand, made from 1/35 Mini Art French Cafe table, a piece of a Historex flag pole, and some sheet styrene. I need to redo the cuff buttons as they are too big. I have 1/35 scale tank rivets and can probably find some in the right size. Funny, I didn’t really notice them until I looked at the photo. The subject of the vignette is on the far right of the last pic.

Great scene, I noticed when I started here that taking pictures and explaining the modelling process really helped me advance. They say if you want to truly understand a subject you should teach it, this blogging is close enough to that.
