I have just come from the movie theater, where I saw the German film _Downfall_. It is about the Battle for Berlin and it is a must see for all people interesting in history and anyone interested in WWII figures. Unlike other movies I have seen on the subject oddly the characters are treated like people, not cliche's (okay, Hitler was treated like the evil incarnated that he was). This is juxtaposed on the madness and hell that was Berlin 1945. From a figure point of view, I thought there were too many stg/mp 44's. GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

I've never heard of this movie, however, it sounds good. Can you please tell us where is it playing in CA. You have a link for a trailer, etc...

Sam,
I live in the L.A. area (San Fernando Valley specifically), but couldn't tell you where to looking in San Diego. If it helps, I saw it at the local art film theater (Laemle(sp?) chain).

I saw it yesterday. When the movie ended people just remained in the seats quietly. After a while people started getting up and leaving, no word being said.

I also thought of the the many Sturmgewehr. Speer has been critized for maiking himself look better in his memoars. The worst scene is when the Goebbels poison their children.

I really recomend this movie as its trying to very accurate and it surely gives a new perspective to Hitlers madness, the cult around him and the incompetence of many nazis.

Hear, hear, Matt--great movie! Bruno Ganz was amazing in his portrayal of Herr Schicklegruber. And Frau Goebbels was particularly chilling. All in all an excellent flick.

One I'd be interested in. A lot of the military guys uniforms look a bit clean given the conditions,. A film I'd love to see otherwise.~Gary

The "american voice" in the trailer seems very misplaced, at least to me. It sounds like hes presenting the latest action movie with Arnold. And it not so much a war movie as the focus arent on the fighting.

Wow! Thanks for the link to the trailers.

Unfortunately, for me, the closest theater showing this is 30 miles away...

Does sound interesting. A good fillm for WW2 buffs. There was an interesting article in the Daily Express yesterday on Hitler and a potfolio that was compiled post war and hidden in the Soviet State Archives on his supposedly most trusted aides, his butlers!!! Go figure. It was compiled for Stalin, who was fascinated by his arch-nemesis.
