I didn't post work-in-progress pics of this one, but it was a gratifying project. The sculpt is by Romain Van den Bogaert based on McCurry's famous portrait of and Afghan girl that appeared in National Geographic. It's my first miniature bust. I think the pattern on her hijab came out well. It was hard to try to capture such an iconic image. I think the naturally weathered wood makes a good socle.

WOW that is beautifully done and that old wooden base sets her off well.

Cheers Geoff

This picture the bust is based on the cover of National Geographic magazine as Matt says

Think Samir Hanusa took the picture ?,

Outstanding, Matt! As an aside, a copy of the National Geographic magazine with this original cover photo is in the donated reading pile at my doctor’s surgery & it’s one of those editions you can’t help yourself from browsing through, because the cover is so striking. Brilliant work, particularly the eyes & the pattern on the headscarf.

Excellent!
As in the original cover photo, the eyes are the attraction. The pattern in the fabric of the scarf is well done, also.
Congrats!
