WIP My first bust-all the help will be appreciated...

Good afternoon to everybody
I am surfing around this great site for some time now,and I really am impressed by the quality of painting and sculpting I see...
True masterpieces...
After all this positive influence,I ordered some days ago mr youngs superb bust of u boat crew...
I have got some minis under my belt but I still consider myself a rookie...
So,to the point...firstly I decided to paint the face with oils,but today I found in my LHS a lifecolor flesh paint set and I am really confused.
Should I try with oils-done it couple times before-or take some great acrylis sbs from our wonderfull site and give it a try?
what about the uniform too?
can somebody give me some oil mixes for it?
sorry for the load of the questions,but I really hope to find some guide lines from you guys and am sure I will...

With a name like Michelangelo you should have no problems. Seriously, have you got anything that you can practice on? Then you could try both oils & acrylics before trying your bust. I personally use acrylics, but that's just me. Most important thing is enjoy it, & don't become disheartened if it doesn't go as planned. You can always ask questions on here, no mater how silly it may appear.

Hi Stralis,

Many people use a technique called "oils over acrylics" which can produce some amazing results. This technique seems to bring out the best on both paint mediums when done well. The oils are used to provide a tint of colour on top of the acrylics, which adds depth and vibrancy to the acrylics, which can often be too flat and monochromatic.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes; after all you can always strip the paint off a start again if you want to. I've learned far more from my failures than my successes over the years, and its a constant process of trial and error that keeps you improving your technique.

Thank you very much for your feedback and encouragement gentlemen,I will do my best...Free time is something very rare for me nowadays as I have my newborn son around,but hey...even 5 minutes in the bench makes me more relaxed and happy...after all this is why I love our hobby!!!
