Hi friends,

I've been interested in digital sculpting for a while and I decided to give it a try and started learning it. here's my first try on sculpting head.

I'm a very beginner, so I don't have any knowledge on software so I want to share know-hows and learn more on this. I believe digital inspires analog, vice versa.

Hi Kaz,
although I can`t contribute any knowledge about digital sculpting I am impressed about your first try. This came out nicely. I would just suggest to rework the jaw. This part looks very strong and makes the face look more like a statue with "heroic" proportions than a portrait of a natural person. But maybe exactly this look was the result you were striving for?
What software did you use for the sculpting?
Cheers, Martin

Thanks for your straightforward critiques, Martin. I'll try to improve it. (it's easy to make different versions, one of the good things on digital. :))

I use Sculptris, because it is free and released from Pixologic so I think it's a good stepping stone for ZBrush.

Do you start with a head template with features in sculptor I sir is everything done from zero? Just curious as I have no knowledge of such programs. This looks good but intense. Great first try.

Colin

Thanks Dan, swralph, and Colin.

I sculpted it from zero. First thing you see when you launch Sculptris software is a plain ball. I sculpted it.

Thanks RKapuaala, for nice tutorial movies!
How do you record your SBS work history into movie like this?

KAZ I bought a neat little software package called Corel VideoStudio. It came with a bunch of apps like ScreenCap which captures my work on any screen I'm using. Surprisingly it doesn't slow me down as it is grabbing frames. I timelapsed in the VideoStudio app that came in the same package. Not a bad buy at 50 bucks.

Yes this is nifty software, Dan. I've never thought digital sculpting is fun before I try this.

Jon, no, I don't have tablet + pen yet. I'm doing this with mouse with PC, and magic trackpad with Mac. (I'm a PC + Mac user)

Thanks RKapuaala, for screencap info!

I just downloaded the software today and am looking forward to playing with it myself. Not sure what I will accomplish but I'll have fun trying. Looking at this and subsequent posts I can see that you have come a long way with the software.

Jim

Jim, You made it and it's free to try, nothing you lose. :)
Yes it's quite a long way....and still a lot to learn. :)
