Hello all,
I would love to get any advice from all.
Well, here we go as i jump into my first try in metal miniatures. I bought a bunch of metal figures (still have a Mongol on horseback and Saracen on camel...) when i worked in Ukraine about 8 years ago in Kharkiv. There was a lot of clean up to do as they glued sloppily.. but once i started to take them apart and clean them up i really liked the expressive castings!
Sorry about the slightly fuzzy fotos, but will try to improve in future; hopefully u will get an idea.
I wanted to make this one into a Ukrainian Knight in Kiev around X century. I know burnishing the helmet is looked down upon but i felt it really made the figure "pop". I used a very slight copper wash on the helmet joint lines and bottom.
base is just proviso now, but maybe a snow flecked groundwork might work
The rest was painted with acrylics... still have to paint sword and to attach it.. am not happy with the decorative lines along the bottom of tunic and will fix by making the brown and cream lines much thinner in front... when i figure out how to blend oils, i will maybe redo the tunic and pants to get more subtle transitions into shadow areas...
The shield pattern is Varangian, as they according to legend were the Scandinavian ancestor warriors in Ukraine-Rus of those times.
All comments much appreciated!
