My first figure

This is my first post on PlanetFigure about my work. Here is an image of a preproduction figure I sculpted. The subject is Capt. George Guynemer, the French WWI ace.

Greetings!

Thanks! I've been lurking for some time, enjoying all the great work I've seem here. I decided it was time to join in the fun.

The scale is 120mm. The figure was finished in September of last year. But it has been slow to come to market. It should be available for purchase in about a month or two— as production ramps up. I cannot reveal the company, as I have been asked not to, until it is available.

The medals were done with photo-etch that I designed. They were multi-pieced, relief etched assemblies. A few had extra dimensional details added with magic sculpt to make them a little less flat.

Now there's a name I haven't heard for a long, long time. I met you briefly 4-5 years ago (?) at MFCA when you were on the verge of sculpting for one of the Big Boys.

It's good to see you back in the figure community after the long absence and glad to see you here on pF. Have you been sculpting all this time?

Tom's ability to capture a likeness is uncanny, having seen 1/48 pilots that can be recognized just by looking at them. Great stuff Tom.~Gary

I have always had a fondness for the colorful figures of the Great War. For me, it is a period with much potential to be explored.

Hello, Steven! Well, life took me in another direction after MFCA. But I always wanted to come back to sculpting. I've been sculpting on and off for the past year. Most of the things I've been working on are 1/48 scale figures. Again, subjects of the First World War. But I am getting an urge to do some of the aviation 'greats' of the 20s and 30s. So I suppose there is hope for me.

BTW, has anyone heard from Mike Good? I've tried contacting him a few times, but I don't get an answer.

That is truely stunning, and such an original subject as well. Will it be available commercially, and if so, from whom? If you're thinking of doing a WW I ace series, I'd love to see a Billy Bishop figure in this scale. A colourful and controversial character indeed.

A superb figure of an interesting and neglected personality! And a very good likeness. If you're pursuing WWI "personality figures", may I suggest Max Immelmann or Oswald Boelcke (hope I haven't butchered their names beyond recognition...) - respectively, the inventor of the Immelmann turn and the 'father' of simple air tactics. Or if you want to portray someone from the ground war - Gny.Sgt. Dan Daly, 5'6", 132 lbs, two time MOH winner before WWI, won the DSC at Belleau Wood. The Marine purported to have roused his platoon by yelling, "Come on you SOBs, do you want to live forever?!"
